At Expedia, our mission is to redefine travel through the power of technology. The E-commerce Data Science team within Expedia Group supports services within the e-commerce lifecycle across all brands. The team primarily works on risk mitigation functions such as Payment fraud detection, Supplier risk, Account Takeover Mitigation, and Marketplace Trust. We are tasked with building predictive models, setting up detection strategies, performing in-depth analysis for identifying gaps/opportunities and metrics development. We are looking for a world-class Data Scientist to join our team and contribute to solving sophisticated problems and taking on illicit behaviors within the Expedia Group marketplace.

What you'll do:

  • Be adept at quantitative analysis, perform experiments and deep dives to identify new opportunities/improvements
  • Apply statistical methods to evaluate new risk mitigation strategies and make feature engineering recommendations for model improvement
  • Continuously collaborate with teams from other fields such as Product, ML Scientists, Operations, and Engineering
  • Define and develop performance metrics for continuous feedback
  • Have a sense of curiosity about exploring the unknown and translating ideas into opportunities

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's, Masters or Ph.D. degree in Analytics, Mathematics, Science, Statistics, or Information systems; or related technical field
  • 3+ years of demonstrated ability in quantitative analytics, data science
  • Advanced SQL skills for data extraction and manipulation
  • Solid understanding of at least one scripting language (Python, R, etc.)
  • Good understanding of statistics, prediction analytics, and model development
  • Analytical thinking and ability to transform business needs into quantitative problems
  • Experience in working with large datasets
  • Be an excellent teammate

Preferred:

  • Experience in an e-commerce company working with event-based data
  • Prior experience in fraud detection, risk mitigation, trust domain
