EMEA Senior Indirect Tax Manager - Planning & Advisory
Our Corporate Functions are made up of teams that support Expedia Group, including Employee Communications, Finance, Legal, People Team, Inclusion and Diversity, and Global Social Impact and Sustainability.
We’re seeking a motivated and experienced Senior Manager to provide indirect tax advice, analyze legislative changes and manage controversy matters for the EMEA region. This role will reside in London or Madrid.
In this role, you will:
- Review new EMEA indirect tax legislation, tax court decisions, and administrative rulings to determine their application to Expedia Group, advising on processes, controls, and compliance requirements.
- Develop and execute indirect tax strategy for the EMEA region, including measuring success and adjusting based on new facts or a changing landscape.
- Manage EMEA indirect tax audits providing recommendation to leadership.
- Assist in providing indirect tax advice to business partners on new business initiatives.
- Propose solutions and thought leadership to address indirect tax challenges unique to the travel industry.
- Support the evolution of tax technology tools and enhancements to align with global indirect tax laws applicable to the travel industry, considering current capabilities within financial and tax compliance systems.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with finance, treasury, legal teams, and external advisors on significant business and indirect tax impacts.
Experience and qualifications:
- 10+ year experience in VAT, with a preference for knowledge in special travel agent regimes, deemed supplier rules and accommodation tax.
- Strong indirect tax research skills, with the ability to identify trends across jurisdictions and links between multiple tax types.
- Background in public accounting or law firm and/or with industry experience in technology and travel sectors.
- Passion for travel and e-commerce technology platforms.
- Ability to consider competing requirements and provide comprehensive recommendations.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment, quickly adapt to change, and demonstrate a desire to learn.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to distill complex indirect tax technical issues into simple concepts for business partners.
- Proven record of collaborating and delivering results as part of a cross-functional team, both locally and globally.
Please note that this role is only available in the following locations: Madrid and London, in alignment with our flexible work model which requires employees to be in-office at least three days a week. Relocation assistance will be considered for candidates relocating to these locations for this role.
