Machine Learning Scientist III (Recommendations)

The Traveler Recommendation Data Science team is a geographically distributed team across Austin, Seattle and London offices with a good composition of junior and senior of 12+ machine learning scientists.The mission of the team is to build the state of art algorithms to help our travelers to find right traveling Product that fit their needs. Our AI algorithms powers recommendatoins on hotels, vacation rentals, car, destinations, air, activity and packages.

This role is for a Machine Learning Scientist to join our fast growing Machine Learning Science team. We create and innovate state-of-the-art machine learning algorithms to make our recommendation platform more effective and efficient, increasing its relevance for travelers worldwide. We collaborate closely with the engineers, product, and other data science teams to create the top-notch recommendation platform in traveling industry.

What you’ll do:

  • You will develop highly scalable algorithms based on state-of-the-art machine learning models to drive various personalized recommendation scenarios.

  • You will drive key machine learning initiatives, using data on billions of platform interactions across more than a million hotels and other travel products worldwide.

  • You will utilise advanced machine learning and statistical modelling approaches to impact the business and raise the bar of how we work.

  • You will use the latest cloud and data technologies to train and deploy your models at scale and support key business initiatives.

  • You can handle both planned and ad-hoc work, own important data products, prioritize workload effectively, and thrive in a dynamic environment.

  • Communicating your findings and implications to your teammates and to business partners clearly and concisely is key.

  • Build clear, concise and well-structured functional material (e.g. policies & and procedures, guidelines, presentations, messages) and recommends improvements to existing material.

Communication and presentation:

  • You will communicate across various levels of the organization, tailor messages to audience and filters relevant information.

Stakeholder and project management:

  • You will frame challenging business problems as a data science problem and concrete set of tasks.

  • You will leverage others’ skills, knowledge and expertise effectively in problem solving and delivering impact.

  • You will manage stakeholders with frequent communication, expectation management, meeting deadlines and minimizing surprises.

  • You will manage the backlog well, including across large cross-functional teams. Deliver projects to maximize business impact in sync with wider business timing.

Who you are:

  • Advanced degree in Computer Science, Data Science, AI, or related fields.

  • Minimum of 2 years of experience as a Data Scientist, preferably with a focus on Search Ranking, recommendation and NLP and generative AI.

  • Experience leading ML initiatives with a proven track record of implementing and productionizing these models in large scale industrial settings. Demonstrated understanding of the limitations of selected methods.

  • Solid MLOps practices including good design documentation, unit testing, integration testing and source code control (git). Exposure to Deep Learning applications and tools like TensorFlow, PyTorch, Caffe is a plus.

  • Demonstrated ability to build and maintain multiple data science project/product in production environments.

  • Have significant experience in at least one major ML programming language (Python, Scala…) and familiar with others.
