Then come join us! We are looking for a technically driven Senior Manager, Software Development Engineering to join the Home Experience engineering team.

Part of the Growth & Loyalty organization, our Home Experience team is on a mission to re-invent the Home page. With us, you will help build engaging features for our top-of-the-funnel customer experience and shape the future of how travelers go from inspiration to booking their trips, on native (Android and iOS) applications and on our web pages.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead engineering team(s) through planning and implementation to ensure the successful execution of new ideas and approaches

  • Advocate for operational excellence (such as automated testing, establishing SLAs, for resiliency and scalability, advocating and implementing CI/CD best practices)

  • Act as a spokesperson for software design best practices - researching and recommending frameworks and architectural/code design patterns

  • Partner with the business stakeholders to have a clear understanding of how the technology stack is tied to business outcomes

  • Develop action plans for optimal alignment of people to initiatives, based on skillset, growth opportunities and project needs

  • Remain informed on industry trends, examine inefficiencies in the existing stack operation and encourage engineers to improve them

  • Guide engineers in their individual development, providing regular and specific feedback, and assessing individual and team performance

  • Deliver work for defined domains and expands scope and feature set for those areas.

  • Collaborate with management and product to balance the needs of team wellbeing, features, and system maintenance and operation

Who you are:

  • 7+ years of experience as a software developer engineer with hands-on experience working with native applications (Android or iOS); web development experience is a plus

  • 3+ years of experience as a people leader, successfully coaching and managing career growth of at least 3 engineers

  • A bachelor’s or master’s degree in engineering, or a related technical field; or equivalent related professional experience

  • Problem solver, who loves to understand in great details why and how things are built

  • Excited about empowering your team to navigate from ideation to delivery at quality, on time, with fun

  • Experiences with observability (metrics, logging) and alerting to understand application’s health

  • Collaborated closely with product and UX/design teams to deliver and influence a roadmap of customer facing features

  • Worked in an Agile environment and have explored ways to optimized team work

  • Strong technical acumen which allows you to be responsible for multiple technical domains; justifying technology choices to technical and non-technical observers

  • Experiences with CI/CD, automated tests and automated delivery pipeline

  • Extensive knowledge ofAndroid technologies such as Jetpack, Jetpack Compose, Java, Kotlinand Android Studio

  • Extensive knowledge ofiOS technologies such as Swift, SwiftUI and Xcode

  • Extensive knowledge ofweb technologies such as React, Typescript, JavaScript, Node and Visual Studio

  • Extensive knowledge of GraphQL, Apollo, RESTful APIs, JSON, and web services integration

The total cash range for this position in Chicago is $165,500.00 to $232,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $265,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
