Vice President, Marketplace Design

Expedia Group is seeking a Vice President to lead and optimize our two-sided marketplace for travelers and travel suppliers.  We want to ensure that suppliers and partners have powerful incentives to offer competitive prices and fantastic service to our travelers, thus driving marketplace volume, long-term repeat purchase, and most importantly, an amazing traveler experience.   To get there, we need an inspiring and experienced leader who can work with our executive team and operating units to synthesize our strategy, ideate with product teams to design features consistent with that strategy, and program manage the launch of these features to ensure the entire solution is successful. 

As the VP of Marketplace Design, you will lead the product organization responsible for designing key aspects of the Expedia Group business model.  You will partner with our Product, Technology, Marketing and our Expedia for Business organizations to understand the key issues and identify areas where we can create leverage.  Your team will evangelize and educate the broader organization to drive changes to our company-wide roadmap and business processes. 

This is a highly visible, strategic role that can have a big impact on Expedia Group’s business model.  A background in strategy and micro economic theory is important.  However, this is also a product role and you will be accountable for launching key programs and features; so successful candidates will also have a successful track record in full lifecycle product management.

What You’ll Do:

  • Lead product ownership for trust-related programs such as Premier Property and Premier Host; lead the design of Partner quality score, including evolution to “deal score” and “experience score”, and own the transfer of listing assets
  • Lead and execute the product strategy and roadmap (in partnership with engineering, data science, design, and commercial partners) for these areas in collaboration with our broader EG Technology roadmap
  • Build & lead an engaged & inspired organization of top talent which drives innovation, sets clear objectives and key results
  • Set the bar for product excellence that is embedded in the customer journey, commercial return, and strategic prioritization
  • As for trust-related programs, partner with the Sr. Director of Trust & Safety and align on strategic priorities and deliver
  • In partnership with Marketing, support differentiation and ensure vital configurability & customization across each element of the homepage, mobile app, activity shopping experience
  • Collaborate with key partners to optimize their solutions (eCommerce, AI/Data Platform, Partner Experiences, Design, etc.)

Who You Are:

  • Leadership experience developing dynamic product experiences
  • Experience in Data pipeline engineering to provide all necessary internal and external signals for run-time interference
  • Experience with Data Science, Analytics, and Customer Advocacy – in the realm of repeat purchase behavior, price competitiveness, marketplace dynamics, and moments of truth of the traveler experience
  • Prior success in leading an organization at scale is required
  • Outstanding communication skills, both written and verbal
  • Strong team-building skills and ability to motivate others
  • Team-player approach and willingness to collaborate
  • Able to work independently and take the initiative to solve tough problems
  • Bachelor’s degree in business management or related field; MBA or a BS in Economics is a plus
