Ashu is one of our newer employees in the Gurgaon office, but she’s already made such an impact in a short amount of time. She’s eager to learn about new technologies and collaborate with her teammates to build more exciting products. Read more to learn about Ashu’s current projects and motivations at work.

What does your typical work day look like? 

I am a Software Developer II, part of Knockout, Brand Expedia API team, based in the Gurgaon, India office. Prior to COVID-19 I would generally wake up early in the morning and get ready for the office as I commute daily from Delhi to the Gurgaon office. During that time I read the latest news to stay up-to-date on what’s happening around the globe and about new technologies as well. In the office, we have team syncs/stand-ups about the tasks in the active sprint. We discuss the project status and whether or not there are any blockers, and determine solutions for those blockers. For the rest of the day, I’ll work on my assigned tasks such as looking into production issues/fixes and application statuses. 

What is your favorite part of your job?

Being part of Expedia Group, I get to work with people from other countries and I get to better understand their perspectives and working styles. We have so many internal Slack groups and Confluence pages for each topic that it makes very easy to understand anything that we haven’t worked on. Everyone is also willing to help which is the best part. As a newer employee, I find this to be a really great working environment. 

What has been your proudest moment so far at Expedia Group?

It’s only been three months at Expedia Group, but in this time I’ve already been able to be part of great projects and deliver them on time. The first project I worked on was building a product to understand how customers are using the Expedia site on desktops, mobiles and tablets. Hence making them understand how to prioritize the delivery features accordingly. It’s a great feeling to know that you’ve worked on something impactful for the company.

What makes Expedia Group a great place to work?

Expedia Group has structured processes in place. As an SDE, there are many tech trainings that I can request or sign up for, as well as different resources such as internal articles or Confluence pages where I can ask my colleagues questions about projects or other tech problems. There are plenty of great opportunities to grow as an individual. You can learn new things every day.  

Why would you recommend a career within your team?

I’m part of a team of multiple talents. Anyone joining the team will get the chance to enhance their knowledge on both personal and professional levels. Our leaders and fellow team members are all very supportive. We’re constantly improving our tech skill sets.

What piece of advice would you give candidates looking to join Expedia Group?

Expedia Group is a great place to improve and learn new technologies. If you want to be a full stack developer, then you’d be joining the right place as you’ll have many opportunities to work on both front- and back-end work. You’ll be able to learn and participate in discussions with experienced and senior leaders.

What are you most passionate about?

Professionally, I am passionate about computer technologies. I really like to learn new computer languages or new technologies available in market or the ones required in projects I am working on. I like to get involved in my work and build great solutions with my team. 

Personally, I want to evolve as a good human being. I always try to be helpful and polite with others. I’m also interested in learning new musical instruments and different languages.

Anything else you want to add about your role or experience at Expedia Group that might be useful to potential candidates?

This is an amazing place to work with a flexible environment, friendly and respectful people, and there are great opportunities to grow. Overall, working here has been a very unique and worthy experience.
