Top 5 Highlights as a Graduate with Lucy

Lucy Tyler joined Expedia Group in August 2022 as part of the Expedia Group Graduate Program in London. In the time Lucy has been at EG, she has gained experience across two different commercial teams, and enjoyed a wide variety of learning opportunities and social events along the way. Find out more about Lucy’s journey so far, and her top 5 moments.

Lucy Tyler, Commercial Graduate, London, UK

My journey at Expedia Group began in August 2022, when I joined as a Commercial Graduate, in our Angel, London office. Following the completion of our 2-week onboarding training, I transitioned into my first role and team. Since then, I have had the privilege of navigating through two divisions: Private Label Solutions (PLS) and Travel Partners and Media (TPM). Across both, my main responsibility has been overseeing our partnerships across the EMEA region. Within PLS, my main tasks were managing campaigns for our B2B partners, as well as creating new innovative ideas for their API. Meanwhile, within Market Management (TPM), I have had the opportunity to manage hotel partners across the southern region of the UK, fostering growth for their business through our products.

Although the experience of Grads on the program can differ across cohorts (years), The program consists of 2 weeks of introductory training, which helps onboard each graduate into the company. We took part in workshops across a variety of topics, including learning about different parts of the business, how to deliver presentations, networking, and much more. This was helpful for learning all about EG, and specifically it helped with learning about the division I was working in, formerly named Expedia for Business. We got to meet leaders in Q&A sessions specifically for Graduates, and one leader that we met was Ariane Gorin, our upcoming EG CEO, who shared more about her career journey, her time at EG as well as helpful tips on how to manage work-life balance. It was an invaluable experience.

Prior to joining EG, I studied Advertising and Marketing at the University of Lincoln. Alongside my degree, I had taken part in various types of work experience, primarily marketing internships and volunteering. This provided me with relevant business knowledge, which helped me with the transition into the Graduate program

Once within the Graduate program, I found it super beneficial undertaking internal training workshops. These included courses, such as beginner-level account management and sales skills. Each training session equipped me with practical skills directly applicable to EG, enriching both my professional toolkit and enhancing effectiveness within each team I’ve been a part of. I also sought out a mentor, within the company, who guided me through my career options, understanding my strengths and weaknesses. I believe it is super helpful to implement both of these elements within your time on the Graduate Program.

1 Volunteering activities during onboarding

We spent time gardening and re-painting at a community centre in Shoreditch, London.

2 Personal growth focus days

Time dedicated to self-paced training as well as webinars with leaders sharing their top tips and advice.

3 Exposure to wider teams and networking

During the Graduate Program I have had the opportunity to speak with and learn from colleagues within Retail Partnerships, SEO, Social Media teams, and more.

4 Team trips domestically & abroad

I Attended a PLS Quarterly Business Review (QBR) in Munich, Germany. Plus I also visited PLS partners in Manchester, Sunderland and Borehamwood alongside the Account Manager.

5 Graduate social events

We have had various socials such as Bingo events, Dinners and Drinks. They have been a great opportunity to get to know not only my Commercial cohort, but also the Technology Grads too!
