Career Check-in with Samantha Mandig: Senior Employee Communications Specialist
Samantha Mandig first joined EG in April 2022 and when she originally applied, she was living in Orlando and wanted a big change. she applied for several opportunities with one requiring her to move out of state. Fortunately, she was offered a role as an Employee Comms Specialist in New York City and hasn’t looked back since.
Fast forward almost three years and a promotion later, Samantha is now a Senior Specialist on the Employee Communications team and her journey has been an exciting one – first supporting People Team and Inclusion & Diversity comms and now also working on messaging for our operating divisions focusing on our travel partnerships and media.
Outside of work, Samantha loves to travel and is a big foodie – you can usually catch her chowing down at one of the many amazing NYC restaurants or planning her next trip based on the best food around the world.
Can you share any career and personal growth you’ve experienced
while at Expedia Group?
Growing up just outside of Orlando, I always knew that I wanted a career in the travel and hospitality space and it’s amazing to be able to integrate my personal passion for travel into my professional career.
From supporting our Inclusion Business Groups (one of my favorite parts of my job) to being a part of impactful events like the IBG Summit, Month of Caring, AfroTech, Latina Leadership Summit and more it’s hard to narrow down just one highlight.
I truly think I’m surrounded by some of the smartest people in the business who are constant advocates for each other and the work that we do. As someone who likes to be behind the scenes and can experience imposter syndrome, since being at EG, I’ve gained so much confidence in myself from public speaking to leading projects and providing counsel to stakeholders which are huge personal milestones.
Being raised in a small town, I never thought I’d end up where I am now but am constantly reminded of how grateful I am to be here in my career.
What does a typical day working in the office look like for you?
I currently live in Brooklyn and make the subway commute over to the Chelsea area where our new NYC office is located. Our unique office in the IAC headquarters has twisted tower sections that resemble a tall ship in full sail. With the Hudson River and West Side Highway one block over and the infamous High Line just steps away, the office building fits right into the amazing architecture.
Once in the office, I get some work done surrounded by my lovely coworkers, within one of our floor-to-ceiling windowed meeting rooms or in our large communal area with La Colombe cold brew on tap. Whenever I venture out for lunch, there are great food halls nearby including The Chelsea Market, Market 57 and Olly Olly Market. Then, usually to end the day I’ll take a stroll on the West Side Highway as the sun is setting.
Why would you recommend a career at Expedia Group?
EG is truly somewhere you can be yourself, and the people here encourage and champion that. Personally, I thrive at a workplace with a great team and outstanding culture and we’re nothing short of that here.
After almost three years with the company, I’m constantly learning new things every day and getting opportunities to expand my skills or explore different lines of work with colleagues and leaders cheering me on along the way.
