Behind the Launch of the Expedia TAAP Academy: with Gloria Nwachukwu

As a Product Manager in the Platform Solutions team, Gloria played a pivotal role in leading on the delivery of the new Expedia TAAP (Travel Agent Affiliate Program) Academy, a learning platform for travel agents who work with Expedia Group.

After starting as a Graduate in August 2022, Gloria has really enjoyed her journey in product management at Expedia Group so far, with her work on the TAAP Academy launch being the most significant project she had worked on to date. This project showcased her ability to elevate user experiences, communicate and organize across teams, and drive impactful results.

Learn more about the responsibilities of Gloria’s team, and about the purpose of the Expedia TAAP Academy, below.

Gloria Nwachukwu | Product Manager II | London, UK

About my team and my role.

I work in the Platform Solutions team as part of Core Services. We provide a Developer Hub platform where orgs, such as Private Label Solutions, are able to leverage high class user experience to present their documentation to their users.

In my role I am a Product Manager in the Developer Hub, so when someone needs to onboard onto our stack, create a new website, change their documentation, and more, I would orchestrate this with our engineering and design teams. I enjoy the high-level of responsibility and creativity involved in making sure our websites adhere more and more to the industry standard.

The Expedia TAAP Academy Launch.

I recently had the exciting chance to work on a project for the Expedia TAAP Academy, which was the first product I owned outright as a Product Manager in my career so far. It felt like a great accomplishment and a milestone. I also enjoyed getting to work closely with the TAAP team to help bring this to life.

The TAAP Academy is a learning platform for travel agents. Think of Udemy for people who book vacations for their clients. The Academy is crucial for Expedia Group as it empowers travel agents to leverage our hotels, packages, vacation rentals, and more, in multiple ways, allowing Expedia services to reach more travellers and further generating more revenue for the business. It’s an important platform as we had over 100,000 users relying on it. The Academy teaches the agents how to use the Expedia platform and Expedia’s products to book vacations, and earn commission via their own agencies. This project was important and impactful because we needed to elevate the previous solution to retain and empower our travel agents, and as a Product Manager making life easier for the user is always my goal.

For this product, we migrated the learning platform documentation from Zendesk, from an HTML format into a markdown format ,in order to be compatible with the Developer Hub framework and stack, to allow a higher quality experience and more features. The Developer Hub stack is built from scratch by EG employees. This was the main technology used as well as Github and Tableau for analytic reporting. Quite a few new features needed to be developed but the impact it has had made all the effort more than worth it and I am glad I get to watch it continue to grow. Since launch, there have been over 42,000 users on the new TAAP Academy platform.

Why I would recommend Expedia Group and advice for starting a career in product management.

I have enjoyed my time at EG because it gave me such a good start to my career. I joined in August 2022 on the Expedia Group Graduate Program, which meant I was given the space and understanding from my colleagues to grow into the corporate world and could spend a good amount of time training, and upskilling, which built my confidence.

For anyone considering a product manager role, I would say trust your instincts. Quite often as product managers you can feel imposter syndrome as you need to know a little bit about everything, which can be overwhelming. Remember you’re there for a reason – nobody else has as much oversight as you! Don’t second guess your judgements but always be open to feedback from your team.
