Career Check-in with Clarissa Werz: Associate Market Manager
Clarissa became a part of the Expedia Group family in 2015, starting in our Cologne, Germany, office. During Clarissa’s tenure at EG so far, she has actually split her time across two of our offices in Germany, after relocating from Cologne to Munich.
Clarissa is currently an Associate Market Manager for the Germany South East region, and enjoys the supportive and empowering environment she experiences in the Munich office, as well as the opportunities EG offers to learn and grow, both personally and professionally, by stepping out of her comfort zone.

Tell us about your role and team.
As an Associate Market Manager, I work closely with hotel partners, ensuring their needs and interests are met while aligning with Expedia Group’s goals. The biggest challenge? Striking that perfect balance between supporting our partners interests and driving company success. It is a dynamic role that requires strong communication, adaptability and is focused on results.
My typical work day starts with analysing reports. I then reach out to hotel partners to discuss their performance and provide consulting, suggesting solutions to improve their situation. Throughout the day, I participate in team meetings and various forums to exchange ideas on a range of topics.

Cologne, Germany
Team Germany West – Cologne Spirit, like Family
I was part of a close-knit team of around ten people. It is very familial, embodying the ‘Cologne mentality’: ambitious, laid-back and supportive. The team focuses on its goals but never forgets to have fun. Whether it is a coffee break, or celebrating a win, we have got each other’s backs. It’s all about passionate work, always with a smile, and a Kölsch, of course!.
Munich, Germany
Team Germany South East – Focused and Supportive
In Munich, we are a team of strong women, many of us working moms, all in similar situations. With part-time schedules, we stay super focused and efficient. We understand each other’s challenges and offer constant support, empowering one another while balancing work and life with empathy and strength. This office is a larger environment with up to 30-40 people. It can get lively, with a multicultural vibe. The focus is on concentrated work and active exchange with colleagues.
Our Munich Office features a sleek, modern design and a family-like atmosphere. Highlights include barista-quality coffee and a beautiful outdoor terrace with a small stream, ideal for lunch breaks in summer.
What was the experience like to relocate from Cologne to Munich?
The decision to move was not easy. Leaving Cologne with mixed emotions and relocating to the Munich area presented various challenges, especially given a 500km distance and managing everything. We faced emotional, physical, organisational and financial hurdles. Overall, as a family with two children (ages 5 and 3 years), we managed well. The key steps we took included: requesting a location change from EG, clarifying all formalities in advance (e.g. cancelling our kindergarten contract), planning and organizing the move thoroughly, figuring out who could help when and how, seeking support from friends and family and utilizing Expedia Group benefits like the CLEO App for expert moving tips for families.
What are some of your interests outside of work?
As a mother of two young children, they naturally come first. When I do find some personal time for myself, I enjoy doing intense sports workouts. I also love dining out with my husband, or friends. Like everyone at Expedia Group, I am passionate about traveling – whether it is sailing with my family to unwind and explore new landscapes, or spending a typical winter vacation skiing in the snow.
What is your proudest achievement at EG so far?
My greatest success at Expedia Group was my promotion from Market Associate in the Account Management Team to Associate Market Manager in the Acquisitions Team. Despite not being fond of acquisition tasks, especially calling new potential clients, this transition significantly advanced and developed my skills. The team spirit played a crucial role in my high performance. During this time, I stepped out of my comfort zone and grew both personally and professionally.
Another achievement I am proud of is winning an internal EMEA-wide challenge, twice, which focused on solving rate and availability issues with hotel partners. This success greatly boosted my confidence.
Describe Expedia Group’s culture.
The work culture at Expedia Group is family-like across all offices, with open and outgoing colleagues who are friendly and helpful. It is a diverse and multicultural environment. Flexibility and adaptability are key, as the company is constantly evolving. EG encourages and challenges employees to continually learn and grow, pushing them out of their comfort zones and fostering personal development.
I would recommend a career at Expedia Group for its unique and motivating work atmosphere, strong team spirit and diverse culture. The dynamic range of tasks ensures that no day is ever boring. Employees are continuously supported and challenged. You can also participate in various projects, for example I am a member of our Inclusion Business Group: Women at Expedia Leading & Learning. Additionally, Expedia Group offers excellent work-life balance and a range of great company benefits.
