Leading with Purpose: Reimagining Inclusive Experiences with Sangeeta Joshipal

Sangeeta, Premium Travel Operations Manager, joined Expedia Group in Gurgaon, India in 2023. Since then, she’s discovered that a great sense of purpose comes from small, thoughtful actions — the kind that shape not only unforgettable travel experiences we’re building as a business but also inclusive, supportive workplaces for all our people.
In this blog, she shares about the collaborative strength of her team, and the sense of purpose from supporting both travelers and colleagues. From championing inclusive hiring practices to reimagining onboarding for Persons with Disabilities (PWD), Sangeeta reflects on how empathy, adaptability, and a commitment to continuous growth have guided her path as a leader.
An impactful role to build memorable travel experiences
“I get a real sense of fulfilment in ensuring that our travelers have seamless, memorable experiences.”
As part of the Premium Travelers team overseeing the day-to-day support operations, Sangeeta thrives on constant learning and problem-solving to succeed in her role. Through collaborating with diverse teams around the world, she’s able to find and execute the best solutions for our travelers and drive our mission of powering global travel for everyone, everywhere.
Sangeeta also finds deep pride in mentoring her team — helping them excel, adapt, and grow into their potential.
“I love that no two days are the same. We’re not just enabling people to travel — we’re helping them create lifelong memories. That makes the work incredibly meaningful.”

Ensuring a more inclusive hiring experience
In addition to her role, Sangeeta is deeply passionate and involved in hiring and onboarding of new joiners, especially when it comes to improving the candidate experience for PWD applicants.

“When we began hiring PWD talent into the team, I realized inclusion isn’t about having all the answers — it’s about listening, learning, and adapting. It starts with being open.”
From the very first interview, our panel goes beyond just past work experience — we also assess soft skills like problem-solving, resilience, and adaptability. This approach helps ensure every candidate is evaluated fairly based on their potential.
“The team demonstrated a strong commitment to diversity and inclusion through our PWD hiring efforts, actively seeking and welcoming talented individuals with diverse abilities. They fostered a culture of inclusivity and equal opportunities by providing a supportive and accessible work environment.” – Kalyan Velpuri, Senior Manager, Customer Experience
Each PWD candidate also had a follow-up conversation with Sangeeta herself, to learn more about how Expedia Group is continuously integrating inclusion and belonging into our talent and processes, so that we can foster access and opportunity for all our employees.
“Meeting these candidates was humbling. Their personal stories, their determination — it made me believe that with the right support, they could absolutely thrive at Expedia Group.”
To set our PWD hires up for success when they join Expedia Group, the Learning & Development team delivers tailored resources, and our Career Hub provides an array of toolkits, planners and self-directed learning opportunities to help them build the career they want.
Onboarding with intention
Creating a supportive environment didn’t stop at hiring. Sangeeta and her team worked closely with floor supervisors to shift onboarding priorities toward skill-building and confidence. For some new hires with motor disabilities, technical tasks like navigating tools or typing responses require more time. To help, they received extra coaching — not just on tools, but on how to communicate transparently with travelers during those moments.
Colleagues also quickly stepped up as allies. They shared quick-reference notes, FAQs, and tips. They checked in during breaks, offered encouragement, and above all, showed kindness.
“In many ways, our PWD team members didn’t just add diversity, it awakened a deeper sense of empathy in all of us. People showed up with compassion, and that’s when I realized: true inclusion isn’t about policies. It’s about people choosing empathy, every single day.”

Sangeeta’s story is a powerful reminder that leadership is not just about driving results — it’s about nurturing people. It’s about asking better questions, creating better systems, and making space for every voice to be heard.
Her journey continues to shape how Expedia Group approaches hiring, onboarding, and inclusive workplace design — proving that when empathy leads, excellence follows.
