Emily’s nine year career at Expedia Group has been a journey in every sense of the word. What started at a college career fair has grown into a Senior Market Manager role where she partners with hotels to make sure travelers have access to great places to stay at great prices. Read on to learn how her role has spanned the country—from Houston and Boston to Austin, Orlando, and now Los Angeles—with each city marking a new chapter in her career.

You’ve worked in several Expedia Group offices. Can you tell us about your journey? 

I actually started my career with Expedia Group about nine years ago, when I first met the team at my college career fair. That led to my first commercial role in our Houston office in 2017. In 2019, I moved to Boston for a promotion overseeing the Cape Cod market. I loved the city, but after a couple of winters I realized the cold wasn’t for me, so in 2020 I made a lateral move to Austin, TX.

While in Austin, I earned a promotion and then took the opportunity to transition to Orlando, FL in 2021 to broaden my experience in a primary market. In Orlando, I was promoted to Senior Market Manager, and most recently I made a lateral move to Los Angeles, California, where I’m continuing to grow my career and take on new challenges within Expedia Group.

What did you like the most about each office? 

Although every office is unique, two things remain constant: I’m always surrounded by incredible, kind people and the offices are always in the best locations. 

• The Houston office was the smallest office I worked in, having just 8 people. It was nice because we really felt like a family.  
• Our Boston office featured a balcony with an unbeatable view. In my first week, we watched the 2019 Patriots Super Bowl parade, and later that year, we were able to see the finish line of the Boston Marathon.
• Austin is the largest office I have worked in. Being in such a large office that’s also the Vrbo hub, I got to cross collaborate with so many people and learn about different career paths.  
• Orlando’s office had a great event space so we always hosted hotel partners for events and celebrations. We were even close enough to Epic Universe (Universal’s newest theme park) to watch the construction of the new attractions from our office.
• And now in Los Angeles, the office is in the heart of the city. Everyone has been so incredibly welcoming!  

What makes working in your role at Expedia Group so great? 

Being a market manager at EG, you are always in the know of what’s going on in your city. It’s such a fun job and so easy to be passionate about because the things you discuss with your partners are things you’re also personally interested in. From sporting events to concerts, conventions and seasonality of vacations, you always have something to discuss and strategize with your partners on. 

If you had to recommend one travel destination, what would it be? 

This is such a difficult question! Like many people at Expedia Group, I’m a travel enthusiast having been to over 30 countries. If I have to pick one, then I would say Paris! It is the one place that I am constantly drawn back to and even though I have been 7 times, I always discover new incredible places and meet the most interesting people.
