Expedians of Springfield: Ashley Donley, Financial Operations Lead

For the past six years, Ashley Donley has honed her expertise in the bustling world of finance at Expedia Group. Currently residing in Springfield, Missouri, Ashley holds the position of Financial Operations Lead on the EAC Accounting Team, playing a vital role in ensuring the company’s financial health and smooth operations. This blog offers a glimpse into Ashley’s time at EG, delving into her insights and experiences working in the “Queen City” office.

What does a typical day look like for you?

My typical day varies from reviewing and answering emails, to working tickets (Payment Allocations, Partner Account Setup, General Questions and Booking Research, Payment Research, etc.). I also perform a daily audit of all of our incoming payments, which can include communicating discrepancies with other teams across E4B, and manually creating receipts which our automation does not catch. As a team lead, I’m also involved with training my fellow colleagues and answering their various questions.

What makes your team special?

My team is an outstanding example of how trust and respect can affect a team for the better. We all work together to accomplish large scale goals, and make sure that those goals are met in a timely and efficient manner. We also challenge each other to speak up about difficult situations and/or technical issues in an effort to constantly strive for better practices.

Why do you enjoy working in the Springfield office?

Springfield is one of the biggest cities around this area, and the culture in our office is wonderful. My team really feels like my work family.

What work accomplishment are you most proud of?

It’s hard to name just one thing, but I am really proud of how much I’ve been able to come out of my shell and find my place amongst a growing team of amazing people. As a typically shy and introverted individual, it’s been highly beneficial for me that my leadership continues to provide opportunities for me to challenge myself, mainly through the ability to lead one-on-one meetings and team trainings.

If you could share one thing that makes Expedia Group unique, what would it be?

Our employee benefits are hard to beat. We receive a yearly travel and wellness reimbursement credit, which increases with tenure. There are also a lot of health/insurance benefits to help with infertility, adoption and surrogacy, and ample time provided for family leaves of absence.

Tell us about your favorite vacation?

I took a trip to Disney World in 2022, it was meant to be a trip with a friend but when they couldn’t come at the last minute it became a solo trip, and a trip of self-discovery in some ways. I was so anxious and terrified at the start of the trip. I really pushed myself outside my comfort zone by traveling alone so far from home, but I met some very nice people while waiting in line for rides, ate some great food, and had a lot of time to reflect on my life and the things that are important to me.
