Life at Expedia Group
My university experience
I graduated from Newcastle University in July 2024 with a first-class degree in Marketing. My studies combined rigorous coursework and hands-on projects, honing my critical thinking and problem-solving skills – experiences that have been invaluable in my role at Expedia Group so far.

Expedia Group culture
The supportive and inclusive culture at Expedia Group stands out, with colleagues always ready to offer guidance and celebrate successes. From day one, I’ve been encouraged to share ideas and take ownership of my work. The emphasis on collaboration, inclusion, and work-life balance has made my transition smoother, especially as someone with ADHD, which motivates me to give my best every day.
My Graduate role
Starting as a Commercial Graduate at Expedia Group has been eye-opening. My first rotation as an Account Manager in the Partner Growth and Agility team has been challenging and rewarding, providing insights into the travel industry and essential skills for a dynamic environment. Working with hotel partners to maximize bookings has been a steep learning curve, but one I’ve embraced wholeheartedly.
The lessons I’ve learned so far
1 – The transition to work
Moving from university to full-time work has been both thrilling and challenging. Unlike the structured academic terms, the workplace demands continuous adaptability. Managing multiple stakeholders and balancing tasks with long-term goals, along with adjusting to the commute, were significant changes. However, my university experience and a part-time marketing role helped me to prepare for some of this.
2 – Resilience is key
One of the first things I’ve learned in this role is how common rejection is, whether it’s a partner who is hesitant to implement a suggested strategy or one who doesn’t see immediate value in the collaboration. Resilience is crucial, approaching each opportunity with energy and optimism despite setbacks. It’s a skill that’s becoming second nature.
3 – A wealth of knowledge
Before joining Expedia Group, my travel industry knowledge was limited. This role has revealed the intricate workings of the hospitality sector and the vital role platforms like Expedia play in connecting travelers with unforgettable experiences, using data and cutting edge technology.

4 – The power of urgency
Acting quickly and decisively is essential. Partners often have immediate issues, and resolving them in real-time highlights the importance of urgency. Whether it’s fixing a technical issue or helping partners adjust strategies to meet changing market conditions, swift action maintains trust and achieves success.
5 – Collaboration is everything
Success is built on strong relationships. Working closely with hotel partners involves understanding their goals and challenges, and collaborating for shared success. Building these connections has been one of the most rewarding aspects of my role.
6 – Adaptability is a superpower
No two partners are the same, and this has taught me the value of a tailored approach for each conversation. Being adaptable and adjusting strategies to suit unique needs delivers meaningful results.
7 – Data-driven decision-making
Leveraging insights to guide conversations and strategies demonstrates EG’s value. Presenting data in a clear, actionable way builds trust and empowers partners to make informed decisions and drive success.
8 – Mindset matters
Maintaining a growth-oriented mindset is vital. The travel industry is constantly evolving, and staying positive, open to feedback, and willing to learn helps navigate challenges, achieve goals and remain motivated.
This first quarter has been a whirlwind of learning and growth. I’ve gained a deeper understanding of the travel industry, honed my skills in relationship-building and problem-solving, and developed a resilience that will serve me well in my career. As I move forward, I’m excited to build on these lessons and continue making an impact in my role at Expedia Group.
