Can you introduce yourself and your role at Expedia Group?
I’m Ashley Wong, Corporate Counsel on the B2B Demand Legal team. I support ourwhite-label template business and am based in Seattle, Washington. I’ve been with Expedia Group since January 2022
What inspired you to start fostering dogs?
It started with adoption. I found Tattered Paws and Golden Hearts Rescue in 2021 while searching for a companion for my first dog. The dog we adopted changed everything. Shortly after adopting her, I began volunteering with the rescue organization and fostering other dogs in need. Fostering is our way of giving back.
What’s the fostering experience like?
Since we started fostering in 2022, we’ve fostered 15 dogs. Each one comes with unique challenges—medical, behavioral, emotional. The first few weeks are tough, but we follow and advocate strongly for the dog using the 3-3-3 rule: three days to decompress, three weeks to learn routines, and three months to feel at home. For international rescues, we extend that to 5-5-5. It’s all about patience, providing calm energy and leadership, and building trust.
Any memorable moments that stand out?
So many! One of the most impactful was Duke, a brown pointer who came to us with both of his ears fully calcified shut as a result of a lifetime of chronic, untreated ear infections. He needed extensive surgery on both of his ears to re-open the ear canals. We saw Duke through both of his surgeries and recovery. Duke was a part of our family for about nine months, when he finally found a forever family to call his own. When he was adopted by a rescue team member in Indiana, my husband drove him across the country, from Seattle to Chicago, booking hotels and car rentals through Expedia. That journey changed Duke’s life and deeply moved ours.
How has Expedia Group supported your rescue efforts?
Expedia’s corporate matching program has been a game-changer. My husband and I donate personally, and we max out the match each year. That support helps cover medical costs and enables rescues to say “yes” to dogs with complex needs. It’s a tangible way the company helps us double our impact.
What does it mean to have your company support your passion?
It means everything. I’ve worked at smaller companies before, but Expedia Group’s scale and values allow me to magnify my impact. Whether it’s matching donations or booking travel for rescue missions, I feel supported in making a difference.
You’ve traveled internationally for rescue work. How has that shaped your experience?
I’ve been to Türkiye four times to visit our sanctuary which is run by a Turkish rescue that we partner with. The sanctuary is called The Garden and it houses over 1,000 dogs. It’s life-changing. You can’t unsee the need once you’ve been there. It galvanizes you to do more, even if it’s just helping one dog, one family, one community.
