Monday: A New Chapter Begins

Kicking off the week with a mix of excitement and nerves, I presented for the very first time in front of my manager and navigator. Standing there, I quickly discovered that presenting in a corporate environment is a whole new ball game compared to what I was used to in school. The feedback I received was not only valuable; it was eye-opening. I learned how small adjustments in design, wording, and visuals can significantly influence the message you convey—and even shape the trust your audience places in you, whether they’re fellow data analysts, stakeholders, or just someone casually passing by.

But the day didn’t stop there! I had the pleasure of supporting this year’s Careers Discovery Programme (CDP) cohort, sharing my own journey and experiences as a former participant. Engaging with these eager minds and fielding their questions was a rewarding experience, and judging their business challenge pitches—each one more impressive than the last—made me so proud of how far they’ve come. It was the perfect blend of introspection and inspiration to set the tone for the rest of the week!

Tuesday: Crafting Hope, One Hand at a Time

Today was nothing short of extraordinary as I participated in the Give a Helping Hand event, where we had the incredible opportunity to build prosthetic hands for those in need around the world. To get started, we formed teams of three to four and together worked on assembling the prosthetic hands. To truly immerse ourselves in the experience, we wore gloves that simulated the challenges faced by those living without hands. This approach brought a true understanding of the daily struggles many people encounter. Adding a personal touch to our creations, we also designed matching wallets and heartfelt cards for the recipients. I couldn’t resist adding my flair—a Plesiosaur breathing fire on my wallet design! It was all in good fun, but the day as a whole was deeply humbling, reminding me just how much of a difference small gestures can make in someone’s life. By the end of the day, I felt a renewed sense of purpose and gratitude, fully aware that the hands we were building would bring both functionality and hope to those who need it most.

Wednesday: A Mindset Shift and Day of Service

At 10:30 this morning, I joined my fellow interns for a transformative Growth Mindset workshop that truly shifted my perspective. The session delved into how our thought patterns can significantly impact our outlook on challenges and opportunities. For instance, simply changing the narrative from “I can’t do this” to “I can’t do this yet!” can unlock a more positive attitude and foster resilience.

After recharging our mental batteries, it was time to roll up our sleeves and put that mindset into practice. We headed over to King Henry’s Walk Adventure Playground to volunteer, where I embraced my inner wood chopper, lumberjack, and arborist for the day! Not only did I hone my skills in chopping wood, but I also got to build a fantastic campfire that brought everyone together. To wrap up this fulfilling day, the interns and I grabbed some food, played a few rounds of pool (I lost every game…), and enjoyed some great conversations. It was a perfect blend of learning, community service, and camaraderie that left me feeling inspired and ready for whatever the rest of the week had in store!

Thursday: A Day of Serenity, Celebration, and Connection

Today was a delightful blend of tranquillity and excitement! I began my morning with a refreshing 10-minute stretch session, courtesy of the fantastic team at Stretch Life. Let’s just say, I quickly realised I’m a lot stiffer than I had imagined! It was a gentle wake-up call to listen to my body and take time for some self-care.

After shaking off the stiffness, my team and I gathered to celebrate a colleague’s birthday at a local Italian restaurant. The pasta was amazing—definitely one of the best I’ve had in London! It felt great to pause from our busy routines and enjoy some quality time together, sharing laughs and tasty dishes. The day culminated in the EG Summer Fest, a vibrant celebration filled with delicious food, fun games, captivating live performances, and even a spooky magician that kept everyone on their toes! Seeing so many employees gathered in one place was truly awe-inspiring and served as a wonderful reminder of just how large and vibrant Expedia Group really is. It was a day that perfectly balanced relaxation, celebration, and community, leaving me energised for the exciting days ahead!

Friday: The Day of Focus and Productivity

Friday was all about settling down and crossing off those lingering to-do items on my list. With no meetings or events scheduled, it was the perfect opportunity for zero distractions and 100% focus. I loved how quiet the office was—it’s amazing how much you can accomplish when the hustle and bustle of a typical workday fades into the background. With fewer colleagues around, I found it to be a golden chance to dive deep into my projects and tackle some extra tasks that could help position me ahead. It felt empowering to make headway while everyone else was winding down for the weekend. By the end of the day, I could truly appreciate the satisfaction of a productive week and the strides I had made in my role. I wrapped up the day feeling accomplished and ready to recharge for whatever adventures the next week may bring!
