Chhavi Jindal | Software Development Engineer Graduate | Gurgaon, India
Tell us about your team and your role
I’m a part of the Activities team, which is responsible for creating seamless experiences for travelers looking to book tours, attractions, and activities alongside their flights and accommodations. As a backend software engineer, I contribute to the development and maintenance of the systems that power our “Things to Do” platform. This involves implementing and optimizing the backend infrastructure, working on APIs, databases, and microservices that handle everything from inventory management to real-time availability and pricing. The most exciting part of my job is seeing my work make a real impact and being part of a team that encourages innovation and continuous learning.

How did your university experience help you to prepare for the EG Intern Program?
I graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology. One of the things I enjoyed most about university was the chance to explore different areas of technology and take part in technical events. My time at university helped me build strong foundational knowledge and critical thinking skills. Participating in college hackathons honed my teamwork abilities.
I first joined EG as a Software Development Engineering Intern in the summer of 2023. Over the 8 weeks, the experience proved to be incredibly enriching as I gained valuable knowledge and skills while getting an exciting first look into the real-world workings of the corporate environment. I felt like a valued team member and was given opportunities to contribute meaningfully. I was genuinely excited to join back full-time, and the experience so far has been incredibly rewarding.
How have you developed personally and professionally since you were a student?
EG’s culture is open, collaborative, and growth-focused. There’s a strong emphasis on learning and sharing knowledge, whether through technical sessions, cross-team demos, or cultural events. With the learning opportunities provided by the Graduate Program sessions, leadership talks, and events I’ve seen firsthand how inclusive and supportive the environment is. This has made it easier for me to build connections and grow both personally and professionally, in the following ways.
Personal Development
Communication Skills: I’ve become more confident in sharing my ideas and contributing to discussions, thanks to regular meetings, Q&A sessions, and projects.
Teamwork and Connections: Cross-functional projects with global teams across taught me to be adaptable.
Time Management: Balancing multiple tasks and learning priorities has made me more organized.
Confidence: I’ve been entrusted with full ownership of my tasks and to be fearless to explore new approaches.
Professional Development
Decision Making: Real-world challenges have sharpened my problem-solving skills and taught me to make decisions backed by data and impact.
Stakeholder Awareness: I’ve gained insight into how different stakeholders, from product managers to business account managers, play a role in shaping what we build.
Best Practices: I’ve gained valuable insights about industry standards into writing code that’s not just functional, but also maintainable and scalable. I’ve learned the importance of building reliable systems that can withstand high traffic and potential failures.
The transition from being a university student to working full-time came with its challenges, but EG provided the support, mentorship, and learning environment to help me thrive. The travel tech industry is ever-evolving, and I’m eager to grow alongside it, tackling new challenges and contributing to innovative projects that make a real difference.
