Success Tips: Growing a Career with Curiosity, Grit, and Gratitude

Marta has spent nearly two decades at EG, progressing through 10 different roles and taking on challenges that shaped her career. Here, she shares her top tips for success and what’s helped her thrive at Expedia Group.
Marta | Director, Ad Ops Growth & Initiative Development | Years at Expedia Group: 18
How Did I Get Here?
“I initially started at Expedia Group as an intern and worked my way up through roles in Advertising, from specialist to director. Over the years, I’ve built teams from scratch, managed global operations across North America, Asia, and Europe, and navigated platform migrations and ad server transitions. My role evolved from individual contributor to people leader, and every step taught me something new.”
What Does Success Look Like?
“In my current role, I split my time between Advertising Operations and the Car Commercial Supply team. Success means impact. Helping partners grow through TravelAds solutions and driving operational improvements that optimize business outcomes. It’s about making processes more efficient and creating value for both partners and teams.”
Habits That Have Helped Me Grow
- Daily journaling: “I write down what I’m proud of, what brings me joy, and what I’m grateful for. Reflection keeps me grounded.”
- Curiosity & love for learning: “I’m always eager to learn, whether it’s a new platform, a new culture, or even a discovering brain exercises or practical gardening tips!”
- Empathy & adaptability: “Leading global teams taught me the importance of understanding different perspectives.”
- Self-discipline: “Staying focused and following through on my commitments has been key.”
- Perspective-taking: “Working across cultures and time zones broadened my worldview and made me a better collaborator.”

A Moment I Stepped Up
“One of my proudest challenges was building a brand-new B2B advertising customer support team. From hiring and training to setting up ticketing systems and defining KPIs, it was a full build-from-scratch moment. Within a year, the team was hitting high 80s in CSAT scores, a huge achievement that taught me the value of great customer service.”
Support Along the Way
“I’ve had incredible mentors and empathetic leaders who guided me. I also invested in self-development through courses, workshops, and books, sometimes in Polish (my native language), for fresh perspectives. Staying curious and proactive helped me seize opportunities to learn and grow.”
Advice for Those Starting Out
- “Stay curious.”
- “Embrace a growth mindset.”
- “Build strong relationships and find mentors.”
- “Align your work with your values and interests.”
- “Remember: you don’t have to love every part of your job – be grateful for the parts you do love.”
What I’m Most Proud Of
“Building high-performing teams and watching team members grow and get promoted is the most rewarding part of my job. And honestly, working at Expedia Group for over 18 years and still loving what I do? That’s something I’m deeply proud of.”
