Senior Software Development Engineer (React.Js)
Introduction to the team
We’re the Checkout team at Expedia Group. Our work spans multiple domains and teams across the company, driving large-scale technology initiatives that power travel booking and purchases.
Expedia Group is on a mission to modernize and unify its traveler checkout platform by bringing together brand-specific systems, like Expedia.com, Hotels.com, and Vrbo, into a single, shared UI platform known as Modern Checkout.
This effort will simplify and standardize our checkout experiences, cutting down on build time, cost, and duplication, while enabling us to deliver consistent optimizations and a faster, easier booking experience for travelers at scale.
Make an Impact
As a Senior User Experience Engineer in the web front end, your contributions will help shape the booking/checkout experience across the Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo sites. You'll also participate in future architecture discussions, influencing the path of our web development initiatives. Additionally, you'll have the opportunity to assist in establishing a lively web experience engineering community in Gurgaon, fostering collaboration and knowledge-sharing.
Our team is diverse and combines the talents of Android, iOS, Web (React), Backend (Kotlin) and Full-stack engineers. Our team is primarily based in Gurgaon, but the checkout experience team also has members in NORAM and EMEA. We collaborate with design and product teams in NORAM, EMEA and India. In this role, you will:
- Build reusable component-based web UI architectures with modern frameworks (Node.js, React, JavaScript/TypeScript and GraphQL, etc.)
- Leverage user behavior data and A/B testing to better understand our customers, fostering a community of trust to incrementally increase booking conversion rates.
- Develop features relying on event-driven data, micro-services, and data science programming models
- Develop fast, scalable, highly available, and reliable web apps.
- Translate designs and wireframes into high-quality code.
- Optimize components for maximum performance across a vast array of web-capable devices and browsers.
- Drive architectural decisions on our frontend and backend systems.
- Simplify core booking and listing workflow to enhance our traveler's experience.
- Work with the off-shore development engineering team.
- Drive new features from inception to production, working across the company with product managers, UX designers, and other stakeholders.
- Dedicated to delivering tested and optimized high-performance code for a distributed SOA environment.
- Create and maintain quality software using best-in-class tools: Git, Splunk, etc.
- Work with QA, product management, and operations in an agile environment.
- Participate in the resolution of production issues and lead efforts toward solutions.
- Grow a performant production environment in a way that makes the system increasingly reliable.
- Participate in our inner source culture (Internal Open Source) by delivering high-quality code that levels up not only your team but the entire organization.
- Opportunities to showcase your work on our tech blog and internal & external conferences.
- Conduct peer code reviews and act as a resource for junior developers.
Experience and qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or Masters in Computer Science or related field; or equivalent related professional experience
- 8+ years of experience in the field of Software Engineering – frontend dUI, with a team environment of at least 5 engineers
- Problem solver and an excellent coder with a deep understanding of JS ecosystem, interactive web application development, and performance optimization
- Have a solid understanding of React, JavaScript/TypeScript.
- Familiar with Node.js, GraphQL, state management patterns and practices, and with automated testing frameworks within a CICD environment
- Have an interest in expanding into a full-stack developer
- Understanding how to make individual components and application sections accessible
- First-class communication skills in written and verbal form
- Outstanding problem-solving skills
- A commitment to producing high-quality code with attention to detail
- Dedication and a self-motivated desire to learn
- A collaborative, team-orientated attitude
- Understanding of testing and monitoring tools
- Ability to debug applications
- Understanding of how teams’ goals fit a business need
