Expedia Group has a mission to become the world’s travel platform. As part of that effort, Expedia Group’s Data organization is building a common platform for all Expedia brands to capture and enrich data to power AI, data science, and programmatic platforms.

The Sr. Manager role will be part of the Marketing Data Engineering (MDE) team in the Expedia Group Data organization. MDE will provide programmatic access to clean, fast, and authoritative marketing data sources for the entire company. We will create robust enriched data products at rest (attribute stores, periodic facts, aggregates) and in near real time with multi refresh cadence to enable self-service analytics.

What you’ll do:

  • Lead a team of data engineers to ensure project deliverables by setting the team vision and determining high level design choices.

  • A strong product mindset along with experience in delivering large complex projects collaborating with a variety of cross-functional stakeholders that are technology, operations or business focused.

  • Mentor engineers and help them establish career development plans.

  • Incubate new ideas and shape the engineering roadmap for the team.

  • Support Expedia Group’s product and business teams’ specific data needs on a global scale

  • Close partnership with internal partners from engineering, product, and business

  • Promote good development methodologies via code reviews, great software design, brown bags, or tech talks.


Who you are:

  • 4+ years of experience managing teams of 5+ engineers.

  • 10+ years of experience in data engineering, with a strong track record of building scalable data platform and products on AWS.

  • Proficiency in Java, Spark, and Scala.

  • Professional experience working with large-scale distributed systems.

  • Professional experience with database systems, both relational and NoSQL databases.

  • Ability to handle ambiguity and work with product and business partners to collect non-technical requirements to design and build scalable experience solutions.

  • Ability to guide and grow an excellent engineering team in a rapidly changing business environment.

  • Experience with real-time data processing and building streaming applications are a plus.

  • Strong communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.

  • Experience with ML model implementations are a plus.

The total cash range for this position in Seattle & Austin is $173,000 to $242,500. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $277,000, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
