We power and deliver the use of industry-leading product analytics, user behavior, experimentation and visualization services and capabilities to enable highly tailored and optimized experiences that utilize the scientific methods and applied insights. 

We are looking for a highly motivated data scientist to join App Growth and Traveler Engagement (AGTE) Product analytics; In this role, you will partner with product team on setting experimentation (Randomized test, multi-arm bandit test), define and measure product success (cohort analysis, engagement incrementality, retention economics), drive the actionable insights (personalization product discovery, engagement levers sizing) and advocate methodology and best practices in analytics community. Your expertise and commitment in leveraging data-driven approach to solve challenging travelers problems, proactive communication and one team focus, as well as strong ownership and tenancy in driving projects to the end will be essential enablers to accelerate EG app growth and traveler engagement strategy 

 What you'll do:

  • Apply a range of common statistical / analytics methods in data modeling, quantitative analysis, experiment design, and data visualization with a religious focus on improving travelers product experience, steward Expedia product with actionable insights 

  • Build practical & fundamental ML models based on detailed understanding of business requirements (including general approach, choice of algorithm and data sources) to fuel Expedia personalization product roadmap. 

  • Own measurement framework development for personalization product (especially on non-transactional and on longer term value); provide support to product & strategy team on goal setting, performance diagnosis, and dashboard development. 

  • Proactively identify key travelers problem statement, apply analytically sound approaches, and recommend the best solution with focus on driving actionable insights to improve Expedia travelers engagement and retention 

  • Collaborate with peer data science team to refine and improve engagement driven test methodology, competitive analysis, and measurement best practices  

  • Partner closely with technical and non-technical teams, to answer complex business and user behavior questions, with a focus on meaningful insights 

  • Proactively engage with multiple departments across the organization, including Product, Strategy, Engineering, and Finance, to tackle problems and identify trends and opportunities 

  • And you will assume end to end ownership of key analytical projects; influence partners and senior leaders through communicating clearly across various levels of the organization using clear and compelling presentations; advocate your insights and learnings to benefit broader audience. 

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's, Masters, PhD or Equivalent Experience; Mathematics, Science, Statistics degree or a related technical field; or Equivalent related professional experience is applicable 

  • High performing individual contributor who consistently applies and enhances the analytics capabilities, principles, and playbooks to solve complex business issues and opportunities 

  • Passionate for logical problem solving and intellectual challenges; curious by nature with an enthusiasm for making an impact; sharp focus on results and strong attention to detail 

  • Operates largely independently with strong sense of ownership, be able to deal with ambiguity and apply structured way to frame and approach problems 

  • Strong growth mindset, great team player, and be able to mentor junior data scientists 

  • Be resourceful and connect the dots intuitively; bias to action is strongly preferred 

  • Able to communicate the results of sophisticated analyses in a clear and effective manner (in both spoken and written) 

  • Expert with large data sets, SQL (or SQL equivalent), and big data tools / languages (Hadoop, Hive, Spark) 

  • Understanding of statistics and hypothesis testing (ex. Confidence Interval, Regressions, Time Series, Clustering, Factor Analysis), experience in modeling selection, building and evaluation 

  • Proficient in building data visualizations (Tableau, Looker, etc.) 

  • Proficient in statistics, including randomized tests design and quasi-experimental design 

  • Experience with R, python, or other coding language  

  • Experience with web analytics tools such as Adobe Analytics or Google Analytics a plus
