Design Program Manager III - Return Ticket

We’ve partnered with Path Forward to create a returnship program called “Return Ticket.” 

"Return Ticket" is a 16-week paid internship starting September 5th, 2022 and ending December 23rd, 2022 for mid-career professionals who have at least five years of work experience and have been out of the workforce for two or more years for caregiving. We’re looking for motivated tech professionals who are eager to return to work and re-launch their careers to help us power global travel for everyone, everywhere! 

Depending on performance, Return Ticket participants may be offered a full time opportunity at Expedia Group. Participants in the 16-week program will have the option to work remote or in the office. In the event you are hired as a full-time employee after the program, you will be expected to work at our Seattle, Austin, or Chicago office.

Within the Customer Experience (CX) org, Design Operations exists to help consistently deliver high-quality design at scale, streamline our processes, orchestrate communication and ceremonies, develop our practices, drive professional development, and serve as a catalyst for how we achieve our vision of a design-led culture across the entire organization.   


We strive to improve the quality of work by enabling designers, researchers, content strategists, UX engineers, and others to do what they do best, design great experiences.   


Design program managers (DPMs) are essential in helping our teams strategize, define, track and deliver work across Expedia’s vast portfolio. DPMs excel at being collaborators, problem solvers, and dot connectors while having direct impact on the user experience by establishing and facilitating design processes and frameworks along the product lifecycle.  




What you’ll do:  

  • Influence strategy for a project or product area by articulating a coherent UX vision based on clear, actionable problem/opportunity statements.  

  • Apply frameworks and engagement models that enable teams to deliver outstanding customer experiences, at scale.  

  • Partner with design, product, research, and engineering leads to drive product initiatives forward.  

  • Define customer experience success metrics for a project or product area.  

  • Develop project schedules, define timeframes, and prioritize tasks to achieve project milestones and deliver intended objectives.  

  • Track capacity and demand across portfolio area to better communicate resource and project needs.   

  • Manage design reviews and communications to product team and executive leadership.  

  • Lead increasingly complex projects with some supervised work on ambiguous adaptive programs.  

  • Support design leadership through effective team communication, proactive problem solving, and information distribution.  

  • Advocate and champion design thinking and methodologies throughout the product development lifecycle.  

  Who you are:  

  • 4-6 years experience in Program Management, Human-centered design or related field.  

  • Passion for user experience and design with an understanding of the creative/design workflow.  

  • Demonstrated delivery of large-scale programs and projects, that drove meaningful impact to the business.  

  • Experience building clear, concise and well-structured functional material (e.g., policies & procedures, guidelines, presentations, messages) and recommends improvements to existing material.  

  • Experience using JIRA preferred.
