Lead Content Designer

You’re perfect for this role if you’re a blend of storyteller, systems thinker, and UX writer. You can identify user needs and craft the right content to meet those needs using logic, data, and customer insights. You love working in multidisciplinary design teams that include product designers, researchers, and fellow content designers, and you're skilled at synthesizing your insights into a cohesive strategy.
You’re also a curious and enthusiastic craftsperson who’s keen to build product experiences that are helpful, inclusive, and human. After all, as the world’s travel platform, we’re not only propelling digital experiences, but physical ones, too.
What you will do:
As a key member of our centralized Content Design practice, you'll lead the approach to content design for the trips experience across Expedia, Hotels.com, and Vrbo. You’ll be a strategic partner both inside and outside of product design, contributing meaningfully to activities like these:
Define and drive the UX content strategy for Expedia’s trips experience, mentoring and partnering with junior content designers to ensure a compelling and cohesive experience
Orchestrate a clear and compelling voice for content — even if you don’t own the means of production — across complex product areas
Use human-centered design methods to craft, co-create, and test content solutions that address real customer needs
Apply concepts around UI frameworks, modularity, localization, and reuse to craft content solutions that scale
Team with product managers and researchers to initiate and drive content tests that measurably improve the customer experience
Partner across Expedia to improve accessibility, inclusion, readability, and translatability of product content
Contribute content standards and patterns to our style guide and platform design system
Who you are:
We realize that the practice of content design is constantly evolving, and we know that no two people enter this field through the same path. We're not expecting you to be a specialist in everything listed here, but we do ask that you demonstrate expertise in whichever methods you apply
Demonstrated lead-level professional experience as a product content designer or UX content strategist
Applied skills in human-centered design (HCD) and techniques such as UX Writing, Content Audits and Analysis, Content Mapping and Modeling, and Information Architecture(This is not a content marketing role.)
Ability to audit, analyze, structure, design, and present content solutions independently using established frameworks
A thoughtful, empathetic, and inclusive approach to content design that meets every user where they are
Ability to collaborate with different practice areas — particularly those with approaches and perspectives different from your own — to generate effective solutions to user challenges
Expertise in facilitation, workshop design, and storytelling

The total cash range for this position in Chicago is $148,500 to $208,000.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $237,500, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
