Manager, Data Science - Analytics
A people leader who provides immediate direction to a small team of junior advanced analysts. Delivers work for several well-defined projects at once with clear oversight from more senior management and partners with product, development, and data science counterparts.
Role Expectations
Frame business challenges as an analytics problem and concrete set of analytical tasks.
Demonstrate understanding of business domain and recommend model changes, constantly evolving information and requirements.
Assess and evaluate the use of various methods when trying to solve a problem considering the underlying assumptions.
Articulate decision-making rationale, solutions, methodologiesand frameworks to team members and both technical and non-technical partners.
Apply your knowledge with Python, Scala or R, or any other major ML programming language. Use common statistical methods such as linear and non-linear regression, multivariate analysis to interpret results
Become knowledgeable in EG visualization tools, creating complex calculations using advanced features and building complex charts with limited supervision
Extract data from multiple data sources and combine them into the required datasets for model building or analytics.
Write code that enables efficient and accurate translation into a data pipeline.
Manage stakeholders with frequent communication, expectation management, meeting deadlines and minimizing surprises.
Manages backlog well, including across large cross-functional teams. Delivers projects to maximize business impact and in sync with the wider timing of the business. Focuses on the 80:20. Is creative and persistent in the face of roadblocks.
Build complex business models for prioritization and action decision-making.
Automate repeated measurement and reporting tasks and build scalable dashboards to cover multiple scenarios (geo, web and apps, etc.). Trains and empowers business, product and tech stakeholders to pull data from automated dashboards or via scheduled reports.
Influence action and results through clear writing, in an accessible way for a wide audience across various levels of the organization. Structures presentations around a clear narrative and is concise in what's included. Presents clearly and engagingly and anticipates questions.
People Leader Responsibilities
Act as a supporting people leader by managing workloads to ensure all team members are fully deployed and skills are matched to work requirements and provide constructive feedback to encourage ongoing development.
Hires and onboard new team members.
Clarifies roles, accountabilities, and decision-making among team members.
Works with staff to develop individual development plans addressing employee needs and meeting team goals.
Evaluates performance regularly, identifying learning needs.
Communicates team goals, progress, and outputs within and across teams.
Meaningfully contributes to the team culture spreading passion and fostering goodwill towards the department.
Leverages others’ skills, knowledge, and expertise effectively in problem-solving and delivering impact.
Experience
Education: 5+ years for Bachelor's OR 3+ years for Master's OR 2+ years for PhD
People Leader: Participated in peer performance reviews by providing technical and functional assessment and feedback.
Previous experience in leading the analytics at 3 multi-quarter projects (someone seen as analytics lead individual contributor)
Function Skills: Critical thinking, Problem-solving, Communication, Collaboration and Influencing
Technical Skills: Statistics, SQL, Data Visualisation, Machine Learning (familiar with Python, Scala or R, or any other major ML programming language), Visualization tools,
Experience in model design
Experience of big data architecture (streaming events, data lakes, analytics engines) and relational database models
