Manager, Software Development Engineering
We are seeking a new member to join the Expedia Group Edge Engineering team! We work on mission critical systems for handling website traffic at scale at the edge of the Expedia network – our systems process billions of HTTP requests every day. Our team builds and manages high quality and performant software which powers the front-door experience for our customers, as well as build and maintain self-service tools for our internal developer community.
A people leader who provides immediate direction to a small team of engineers, delivering work for several well-defined projects at once with clear oversight from senior management and product representatives.
What you will do:
Work with a single team
Mentor individual contributors on the team
Define team goals and how they fit business needs and requirements
Deliver solutions to business problems at the project level
Deliver a product roadmap, working in collaboration with product management
Participate in peer’s performance reviews by providing technical assessment and feedback
Reward and recognize team members
Who you are:
Experience supporting the infrastructure and deployment of web applications
Experience working with cloud concepts and technologies (AWS stack preferred)
Understand browser-web server communications and concepts
0-3 years people management experience
Strong multiple technology implementations
Responsibility for a technical domain
Identify strengths and weaknesses among technologies for particular use cases
Demonstrate the ability to select among technologies available to implement and solve for requirements
Identify areas where efficiency and process improvement are needed within own work area
Apply new ideas or approaches to own work to enhance outputs
Use established tools and techniques to track progress related to implementing process improvements
Demonstrate knowledge of the product development lifecycle from idea generation to bringing a product to market by supporting the different phases and improving product performance
Engage with peers across the organization to build an understanding of cross dependencies, priorities, and opportunities to simplify
Participate in a community of practice and/or product reviews to share and gain knowledge
Act as a spokesperson for software design best practices
Advocate for operational excellence (such as unit testing, establishing SLAs, programming for resiliency and scalability)
Communicate effectively with customers, listen to customers’ concerns and issues regarding technology, and determine customers’ needs and expectations and responds accordingly
Consider new ways of using technology to meet or enhance customers’ needs
Bridge the gap in discussions between technology and non-technology personnel
Evaluate current team projects or goals and identify the relevant skills and expertise needed to accomplish them
Guide Individual Contributors in the development of individual goals, provide regular and specific feedback, and assess performance
Encourage and support education and the professional development of Individual Contributors
Mentor Individual Contributors by providing advice and recommendations based on experience
Evaluate how individuals work together as a team to achieve goals, providing a culture that supports the team in the achievement of goals
