We are looking for an expert and creative problem solver to join our Core Experience Team and help us to build and launch new Recommendation and Personalization initiatives for our customers! We are mobile-focused, and we want our customers to use our Apps natively on their own devices to give them the best experience ever.

Our team is currently working on simplifying our Domain and API layers building up a platform based on GraphQL APIs Schemas that enable and optimizes our development on both Mobile and web platforms.

As a fast learner that has always an eye out for the latest industry standards, You are not only a proficient programmer with a considerable background, knowledge, and experience in mobile-Apps development but also a mentor, capable of raising the quality bar and overall level of self-direction of a team.

This Mobile Software Engineer III position is an engineering role in the Native App focus area for our Recommendation and Personalization teams which focuses on supporting the adoption and evolution of front-end and mobile frameworks across EG (Expedia Group). You will work on opportunities across Core Experience Discovery and also with our partners across EG.


Current priorities include supporting several EG Accelerated Capabilities in adopting React-based web-app platform, Kotlin or SwiftUI-based native apps, GraphQL-based services, and modern development patterns, such as re-usable UI components across applications (Shared-UI/ServerDriven-UI). We are also working to ensure our platforms are associated with the next generation EG build, deploy & operational environments!

What You will do:

  • Build Android and/or iOS UI Applications

  • Have a great understanding and participate actively in designing end to end solutions (Java / Kotlin) and APIs (GraphQL / Rest / gRPC) needed to support them

  • Will mentor and coach other developers on the team

  • Will team up with peers across the organization to build an understanding of cross dependencies and shared problem-solving

  • Participate in a community of practice to share and gain knowledge

  • Share new skills and knowledge with team to increase the effectiveness

  • Sork with several forms of technology

  • Understand the relationship between applications, databases and technology platforms

  • Develop and test complex or non-routine software applications and related programs and procedures to ensure they meet design requirements

  • Apply knowledge of software design principles, data structures and/or design patterns and computer science fundamentals to write code that is clean, maintainable, optimized and modular with good naming conventions

  • Use the understanding of software frameworks and how to leverage them to write simpler code, and can use this knowledge when leading code reviews

  • Identify opportunities around policies/ processes to increase efficiency across organizational boundaries

  • Recognize areas of inefficiency in code or systems operation and offers suggestions for improvements.

  • Compile and report on major operational or technical initiatives (like RCAs) or UX research to larger groups, whether via written or oral means

  • Utilize the customer lens to understand problems deeper in the stack.

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related technical field, or equivalent related professional experience

  • 3+ years demonstrated ability developing and delivering highly available enterprise native applications using mobile technologies like Swift/Kotlin is a must

  • Solid comprehension of the Android and/or iOS APIs frameworks

  • Have worked on Native Apps that are available to be viewed in the Play/Apple Store

  • Previous experience on large codebases

  • Experience in crafting clean, scalable and reliable back end services to support native apps

  • Knowledge or experience with GraphQL Schemas and/or Apollo

  • Experience in Agile development

  • Communicates with transparency and precision, presenting complex information in a concise format

  • Experience testing and monitoring your own code

  • Understands testing and monitoring tools

  • Experienced debugging applications

  • Creates effective automation tests

  • Designs software that is easily testable and observable.

  • You have maintained/run at least 4 software project/product in production environments (bug fixing, troubleshooting, monitoring, etc.).

  • Responsible for leading complex, well-defined projects.

  • A high-performing individual contributor who acts as a mentor to more junior engineers and applies new engineering principles to improve existing systems

  • Demonstrates strength in a couple of languages and/or one language with multiple technology implementations

  • Identifies strengths and weaknesses among languages for particular use ca
