Senior Engineering Manager

Expedia Group seeks a motivated and results-oriented Engineering Manager, to join their awesome Data Lake Engineering Team.

As a Senior Engineering Manager working on an industry-leading Data Platform, you will collaborate with other experienced software engineers and leaders to drive improvements to our technology, design and develop new services and software solutions, and build and track metrics to ensure high-quality results. You will have the chance to work with business partners and leaders to influence and drive product vision and lead the design of our systems.

We love contributing our work to open-source communities and have successfully done so with tools like Circus Train and Waggle Dance. Recently, we added Hive support to Apache Iceberg.

What you'll do:

• Promote the developmentof maintainable and thoroughly tested code.

• Promote an SLO-driven culture.

• Provide ongoing,real-time feedback to engineers on your team to promote their growth.

• Work closely with program managers, product managers, stakeholders, and engineers to seek alignment, remove ambiguity, and set clear expectations.

• Provide high-level engineering estimates and help define a roadmap with quarterly check-ins.

• Collaborate with architects, governance, and engineers within and outside the organisation in defining scalable solutions for the benefit of EG.

• Remain informed about technology trends and establish relationships with partners and communities.

• Help us shape the future of Data Lakes!

Who you are:

• Proven experiencein leadership and team building across different locations.

• The utmost passion for both technology and leadership.

• Experience in delivering end-to-endsolutions with an eye towards scale.

• Strong knowledgeof core and server-side Java programming.

• Knowledge of the Hadoop ecosystem (Spark, Hadoop, Hive).

• Strong experience with cloud computing platforms (AWS, EMR, S3).

• Experience working with Agile methodologies (Scrum, code reviews, pair programming).

• Excellent communicationand organisational skills - able to translate between technical and business groups.

• Ability to lead multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, prioritise decisions and tasks effectively, and thrive in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.

• Understanding oftrade-offs of architectural patterns and comfort in recommending approaches and associated technology choices
