Senior Manager, User Experience Design

As a Senior Manager of User Experience Design, you'll help us achieve that mission by contributing to Travel Platform product experiences while creating strategic visions that paint a clear, compelling picture of our future. The Expedia Group Platform Design team explores and builds next-generation product and service experiences that advance our brand, evolve our technology, and bring user-centered innovation to the travel industry.

The Senior Manager of User Experience Designer leads a multidisciplinary team, driving discovery, experience strategy, experience vision and delivery for larger problem spaces within the Travel Platform and across Expedia Group. Typically collaborating with design team members, product managers, engineers, researchers, analysts, and strategists, this hardworking design leader is driven to help teams through the process of breaking down difficult problems into easy to follow, engaging, and state-of-the-art experiences. They take a systemic view while truly thinking out of the box and they are not afraid of breaking the rules in order to innovate beyond the ordinary. As part of this work, the Senior Manager will define, lead and drive work the Platform Experience Design team endeavors. They will help establish and evangelize the platform along with new methods for approaching innovation and crafting new Travel Platform experiences.

What you’ll do

  • Lead a team that pushes on our systems and experiences to uncover opportunities for connection, simplification, and innovation while helping the team craft compelling customer experience visions and strategies at the platform level by putting together pieces from across the organization

  • You provide frameworks to individuals to help them achieve their career and project goals

  • Ensure team delivers high-quality work, on time

  • Understand target users deeply: develop or work from user profiles & conduct task analysis, usability studies, build user scenarios, and help to create and analyze user surveys and feedback

  • Synthesize often ambiguous problems and business requirements into simple and usable features in a fast-paced, agile development environment

  • Pitch design vision with your team as thoughtful, holistic experiences that hold the design organization accountable to a high-quality bar for your product areas to leadership, product teams, engineering teams, and external partners for review and feedback

  • Lead efforts with key leadership partners and contribute domain expertise to make sure the right groups are talking and collaborating while you drive and guide major evolutions of experience strategy and capabilities for your team

  • Strategically build and maintain a network of key contacts in the company who can partner with us to achieve results

  • Uphold and maintain a high standard and consistency for our products and experiences

  • Assess UX processes throughout the development lifecycle, discover where improvements can be, and put changes into motion

  • Practice, drive and teach exemplary visual and interaction design practice and hold the design team accountable to deliver high-quality experiences—pushing the team to define and evolve the design language for the future, ensuring elevated standards and a beautiful aesthetic

  • Your leadership will accelerate the creation and delivery of new, next-generation travel platform products, services and end-to-end experiences, building differentiated work that advances our brand and charts the course for our industry

Who you are:

  • Bachelor's or Equivalent Experience in Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience, or related Design field; or equivalent related professional experience

  • 10+ years professional experience as a user experience designer or UI designer, with demonstrated experience working with product teams on software interfaces. As well as 5 years of experience directly leading and encouraging your team to raise their personal performance bar

  • History of working in complex product spaces and developing cohesive, compelling strategic visions for experience, product and service challenges

  • Interaction, visual, UX design and user-centered design expertise with a propensity towards simplification, and an understanding of research and content strategy processes and practices to a level that enables strong teamwork with peers

  • System and platform mentality is at the core of your overall design—and human-centered design thinking methodologies

  • Authoritative at balancing qualitative and quantitative data to drive strategic and design direction

  • Excellent presentation, and interpersonal skills, as well the expertise to analytically defend your design decisions

  • Proficient in standard design tools including Figma, Photoshop, and Illustrator, as well as a solid knowledge of HTML, CSS, and responsive layouts

  • You have an online portfolio that demonstrates a strong user experience skill set for large scale projects, exceptionally strong skills in visual design craft and prototyping of sophisticated interfaces for app, web, and other UI (please provide a link to your portfolio)
