Do you love building intelligent, configurable systems using diverse set of state-of-the-art technologies? Are you interested in building a real-time detection platform that can manage EG Security related requirements at scale? The EG Security team in Expedia helps secure the company by providing solutions majorly for Cybersecurity Incident detection and response (i.e. Cyber attacks), Security and Vulnerability Management. The team has developed an in-house monitoring and Big Data processing platform (based on AWS EMR and AWS Data pipelines infrastructure) that is the backbone for Cybersecurity Incident handling and is capable of processing 8+ Billion security events per day.

We are looking for a Sr. Software Development Engineer for our Platform Services development team, who can help us build technology solutions that improve our ability to detect and prevent EG Cybersecurity related issues. Our team delivers integrated software solutions that screen EG wide secure and other relevant logs globally across all the Expedia brands. You will lead a team that builds highly available systems that scale to hundreds of millions of such log events and smart techniques to detect and mitigate Security world-wide. You will be an important part of a growing team using the latest technology to protect our business, our customers, our business partners, and improve our customer experience, empowering the whole EG Security pillar.

What you'll do:

  • Perform reviews of all designs to make sure that they address failure modes, scalability, security and resiliency for the services you own

  • Drive your team to innovate and deliver roadmap features with agility and high quality

  • Participate in hiring for building a strong team

  • Provide mentorship on all relevant competencies for developers

  • Cross-collaborate with product and program management team to maintain a roadmap for your team

  • Provide operational support for the services you own. This includes providing an on-call rotation and incident response to resolve issues

  • Make improvements to your services through disciplined review of operational metrics, root cause analysis of anomalies, and appropriate corrective actions

Who you are:

  • 8+ years software development work experience (Java and AWS platform experience strongly preferred). Knowledge in big data domain would be a plus

  • 2-3 years of experience in a software development environment leading engineering teams

  • Experience in full stack web application development and associated skills (HTTP, SOAP, REST, web services, etc.) in a high-stakes environment would be preferred

  • Solid experience of software development technologies, techniques, and phases - Estimation, Scheduling, Design, Development, Testing and Delivery, and Maintenance

  • Solid experience in cloud technologies (AWS preferred)

  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills including ability to build consensus across the enterprise

  • Self-motivated, able to deal with ambiguity and pressure to deliver

  • Passion for driving critical technical solutions that help solve ambiguous problems

  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field; or equivalent related professional experience
