Growing your Career at Expedia Group: Project Gig Program

At Expedia Group, the Project Gig program offers career and skill development that benefits both employees and managers. Through the program, Expedians can join another team for up to 20% of their time for up to 6 months while working on a specific project or initiative. Project Gigs offer employees the opportunity to develop and hone new skills while sharing knowledge across the company and creating new networks. Managers can leverage Project Gigs to tackle projects faster, get the help of a subject matter expert, and tap into our great internal talent.

Hear from 3 Expedians and their hosts about their impactful experience in the Project Gig Program.

Samantha Warfield – Senior Market Manager

Describe your project gig?

I am a lead for the Unified Product Champions (UPCs) program. The goal is to gather feedback and insights on our tools and enhancements as they are being developed, before they are set live, or improving systems already in place. My Gig acts as a lead and aid to help in increasing engagement from UPCs and increasing the use of the program by the product teams, sharing program updates to relevant teams on a regular cadence, and being a liaison for the product teams and our UPCs as well as their leaders.

How has the project gig contributed to growing your career, knowledge, or skills?

Being part of this Gig has opened my eyes to a world outside of the only org I had known at EG . It has expanded the use of my skillset and challenged me to grow in my areas of opportunity. I have gained a much more holistic view of how the Expedia Group company operates and prioritization. My experience has aided my growth and development by expanding the use of my skillset as well as learning new skills, broadened my network, and helped me gain confidence in myself as I continue my career with Expedia Group.

“This project gig enables my team to scale more broadly across product areas.  It also ensures product launches are smoother which in many cases has avoided unexpected blockers to releasing new products and capabilities.”

Gig Host: Gregory Niewiadomski – Director, Program Management

Daniele Lemolo – Associate Account Manager II

Describe your project gig?

My project gig was centered around providing the most empowering experience for our valued Vacation Rental (VR) Partners and our travelers. By aligning our efforts and focusing on specific initiatives, we enhanced our partnerships and drove impactful results. We launched several campaigns focusing on raising awareness, driving adoption, and increasing engagement with our VR Partners.

How has the project gig contributed to growing your career, knowledge, or skills?

Leading initiatives to enhance Partner and Traveler experiences built my leadership capabilities, teaching me how to motivate, influence, or guide team members towards common goals. I believe that understanding the broader impact of improving experiences on business outcomes fosters strategic thinking and a long-term perspective on decision-making. I also improved analytical skills and ability to get actionable insights from data. But most importantly, thanks to this gig, I landed a new role as account manager at Vrbo!

“This Project Gig has significantly supported our strategic initiatives, particularly in enhancing both the partner and traveler experience. This year, we’ve focused on improving the traveler experience by actively encouraging our partners not to cancel traveler bookings. This global campaign is aimed at reducing our current “honor booking” rate, driving better alignment and trust between us and our partners, and ultimately offering a more seamless experience for travelers.”

Gig Host: Sinead Lim – Senior Manager, Account Management

Victoria Saelee – Senior Customer & Market Insights Analyst

Describe your project gig?
Business Operations on the Media Solution’s Strategy & Marketing team is my project gig. I have been coordinating Monthly Business Reviews with senior leaders & facilitated monthly All-Hands meetings between Strategic Partnerships & Affiliates and Media Solutions .

How has the project gig contributed to growing your career,  knowledge, or skills?
This gig has given me the opportunity to understand another side of the business and advanced my skill set on the Business to Consumer side. It has given me the chance to be visible with senior leadership across all teams and understand the different interactions with all. I have gained the skill set of being strategic in how business operations flow and creating structure when coordinating meetings with senior leaders and department wide.

“The project gig has significantly enhanced our team’s efficiency and collaboration with the businesses and throughout Expedia Group. It has ensured that our operational rhythms for each business are running smoothly and effectively, while also creating scalable processes for future needs. This experience has helped us to better manage and establish our workflows, contributing directly to our team’s and each business’ overall strategic goals.”

Gig Host: Vin Rohloff – Senior Manager, Strategic Initiatives
