Victoria Yannopoulos | Senior Market Manager in Sydney
What does your typical work day look like?
I have just been promoted to Senior Market Manager so my days moving forward will start to look a little different as I will now have more interaction with the leadership team. However, my role mostly focuses on working closely with our awesome Sydney hotel partners, assisting them with growing their properties revenue and helping them understand the ever-changing Sydney market dynamics. I love learning about my hotel partners challenges and then helping them find the right solutions for their business. We also together want to make sure our customers are having the best possible experience, so I am often updating our hotel partners on all the cool new tools and features in Partner Central which focus a lot on their customer interaction.
What have you enjoyed most about working at Expedia Group?
I would first have to say the people I work with! Also the amazing opportunities I have had when it comes to travel. I moved across to Perth for 9 months and really enjoyed my time working with the Perth team and the hotel partners there. I also recently attended a leadership summit in Vegas and had the opportunity to meet a large number of leaders across the globe.
What makes your team unique?
I feel very lucky to work with amazing and talented individuals. We have a diverse team, all with different strengths which means we are always challenging and learning from one another.
What accomplishment are you most proud of?
I would say my move across to Perth as an Associate Market Manager. As I believe this move set me up for future success and challenged me in many ways I was not originally expecting. I learned a lot about myself from a personal and professional perspective and was not mentally or physically ready to move when I accepted the role. On my return to Sydney, I was promoted to Market Manager and also received the 2016 Associate Market Manager of the year award. I threw myself into the deep end and so glad that I did as I don’t believe I would be in this role today without that experience.
Who has influenced you the most?
There are two key individuals that have influenced me most during my time at Expedia Group. Samantha Stock and Jamie Griego. They are humble, passionate and positive and have always displayed behaviours that are inspiring such as; relentlessly striving for better, being open and honest and always putting themselves in the shoes of our partners and customers.
How and where do you find inspiration?
I gain inspiration from those around me at work including my hotel partners however, most importantly from my mum. My mum has been my rock throughout my career and not only runs her own successful business but also supports my dad with his business and runs her own charity supporting disadvantaged women, children, and families in Grenada.
How did you learn to embrace failure?
I learned to embrace failure after realising how much I learned from it. I believe to grow you have to take risks and with risks comes failure, but failing does not have to be a bad thing. If you share your failure with others, you will not only be helping yourself grow but also helping others around you learn and grow.
What is your favorite piece of career advice?
Don’t be afraid to take risks, you learn so much when you fail. What is the worst that could happen?
Tell us about your favorite vacation.
It was a trip I took 5 years ago to New York City. I spent over 2 weeks there and had the most amazing time exploring the city. My favourite part was watching Stevie Wonder, Alicia Keys, Maroon 5 and John Mayer live in Central Park.
What is your favorite weekend getaway?
Driving down the South Coast of NSW visiting Jervis Bay. I spent a lot of time there when I was a child with my family and still love to visit with my partner and friends.
