Tell us about yourself.

My name is Pulkit Batra. I am a Product Management Intern with the Loyalty Platform team at Expedia Group in Gurgaon, India. Previously, I was a student, pursuing my degree in Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence at Netaji Subhas University of Technology (NSUT).

I wanted to join the EG Intern Program because I am passionate about leveraging technology to enhance the travel experience. Expedia Group’s commitment to innovation and its dynamic work environment attracted me to apply.

What were your first impressions of Expedia Group?

My first impressions of Expedia Group were very positive. The collaborative culture and the focus on inclusivity stood out, along with the advanced technological tools and platforms that the company uses to drive the travel industry forward. What surprised me the most about Expedia Group is the level of trust and responsibility given to interns. We are encouraged to take ownership of our projects and are supported in our professional growth.

What team have you joined and what are your responsibilities?

I joined the Loyalty Platform team and my primary responsibilities include conducting product discovery, analyzing user feedback, and assisting in the development and optimization of product features to enhance user experience. A typical day involves attending team meetings, collaborating with cross-functional teams, and working on project tasks such as creating user stories and product requirements. I also spend time analyzing data and generating insights to support product decisions.

My summer project involves product discovery of the current methods of traveler gratification and finding ways to improve them. I have enjoyed the opportunity to work on a real-world problem, from conceptualization to execution, and seeing how my contributions can impact the user experience.

What are the main learnings you’ve had while being on the program?

The importance of data-driven decisions in product development and how to effectively collaborate with diverse teams.

Why would you recommend the program to students?

I would recommend the program to students because it offers a unique blend of hands-on experience, professional development, and the chance to work on meaningful projects that have a real impact on the travel industry. The highlight of the summer has been the opportunity to present my project findings to senior leadership. Their feedback and support have been incredibly motivating and valuable for my growth.

For future interns, I would advise being authentic and showcasing your passion for technology and travel in your application. Additionally, demonstrate your problem-solving skills and your ability to work in a team environment.

What are some of the ways you have been supported by your mentor?

My mentor has been instrumental in my development, offering regular feedback, providing valuable industry insights, and guiding me through complex challenges. Their support has been crucial in enhancing my skills and confidence.
