Introduction to the team:

The Product Team creates high-quality end-to-end experiences for travelers, partners, and Expedia Group. Our customer-first mindset focuses on developing products that encourage loyalty and repeat business, and we partner closely with teams across Expedia Group to drive growth and results for our customers and the company.

This role sits within the Expedia Product & Technology division, leading experience design for Checkout and Offers/Merchandising across multiple brands, products, and platforms to deliver seamless, high-performing shopping and purchase journeys.

As the Experience Design Leader for Checkout and Offers/Merchandising, you will define and drive the design vision for some of Expedia Group’s most critical, revenue-driving experiences. You will lead a multi-disciplinary team, partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data, and Marketing, and use experimentation, research, and analytics to continuously optimize conversion, attachment, and customer satisfaction across the end-to-end shopping and purchase funnel.

In this role, you will:

  • Lead the end-to-end user experience strategy and execution for Checkout and Offers/Merchandising, ensuring cohesive, high-performing journeys across multiple products, brands, and platforms.

  • Define and drive a clear design vision, principles, and north-star experiences that align with business goals, customer needs, and platform capabilities across the shopping and purchase funnel.

  • Build, lead, and mentor a multi-disciplinary experience design team (e.g., product design, content, research, service design) to deliver high-quality, data-informed design solutions at scale.

  • Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Data, Marketing, and other stakeholders to prioritize problems, shape roadmaps, and ship iterative improvements that drive measurable business and customer impact.

  • Use quantitative and qualitative insights, including experimentation, user research, and funnel analytics, to guide decision making and optimize checkout, merchandising, offers, and promotional experiences.

  • Champion and apply AI-driven systems, tools, and workflows—including AI/ML concepts applied to real-world products—to improve customer experiences and operational efficiency across checkout and merchandising flows, ensuring solutions can flex across multiple domains and surfaces.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 10+ years designing digital product experiences (consumer or enterprise), with deep experience in scaling complex systems.

  • Bachelor’s degree in design, Human-Computer Interaction, User Experience, or a closely related field—or equivalent relevant experience.

  • Extensive experience in experience design, product design, or a related field leading complex, multi-surface consumer or e-commerce experiences, including demonstrated ownership of critical purchase or transactional flows such as checkout, payments, or offers.

  • Proven track record leading and developing design teams, including directly managing senior individual contributors and/or managers and operating effectively within cross-functional product development organizations.

  • Demonstrated expertise in interaction and visual design, information architecture, and user-centered design methods, supported by a strong portfolio showcasing shipped work in checkout, payments, offers, pricing, or merchandising.

  • Experience using data, experimentation, and user research to inform design decisions, set success metrics, and iterate at scale across multiple product surfaces or domains.

  • Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real-world products to optimize decisioning, personalization, or merchandising within customer journeys.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Design, HCI, or a related field.

  • Leadership of large-scale, multi-region or multi-brand design initiatives that span multiple products or platforms, particularly within transactional or revenue-critical flows such as checkout and offers.

  • Experience shaping design strategy for complex commerce ecosystems, including promotions, dynamic pricing or offers, and merchandising frameworks that balance customer value, operational considerations, and business objectives.

  • Proven ability to establish and evolve design standards, reusable patterns, and systems that enable consistency, speed, and quality across multiple cross-functional teams and problem spaces.

  • Track record driving experimentation and optimization programs (e.g., A/B testing, funnel optimization, personalization) that deliver measurable improvements in conversion, attachment, and customer satisfaction.

  • Experience safely integrating and operating AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes—such as personalization, recommendations, merchandising automation, or content optimization—in ways that enhance customer experience and business performance, and guiding teams on responsible AI usage within design workflows.

  • Fluency in additional languages.
