Senior Machine Learning Scientist:
Our Corporate Functions are made up of teams that support Expedia Group, including Employee Communications, Finance, Traveler and Partner Service Platform, Legal, People Team, Inclusion and Diversity, and Global Social Impact and Sustainability.
We are seeking an experienced and innovative Senior Machine Learning Scientist to join our team. In this role, you will lead the development and implementation of cutting-edge AI and machine learning solutions, driving business value across our organization.

In this role, you will:
Lead the end-to-end research, design, and implementation of scalable machine learning and AI solutions with engineering rigor.
Architect integrated technical solutions that leverage AI technologies, including model selection based on performance, latency, and cost considerations.
Evaluate and compare AI models (e.g., AWS, OpenAI) to determine best fit, and guide data preparation strategies to ensure quality and relevance.
Define success metrics, establish baselines, and plan experiments to measure outcomes and drive continuous improvement.
Apply expertise in prompt engineering to optimize model performance and troubleshoot prompt vs. model-related issues.
Design and evaluate single or multi-agent AI configurations for production readiness, including security and guardrail implementation.
Provide technical leadership and mentorship to ML scientists and developers, fostering collaboration across teams and promoting a strong data science culture.
Translate complex technical findings into actionable insights for diverse stakeholders, and stay current with ML/AI research through ongoing learning.
Minimum Qualifications:
Advanced degree (PhD preferred) in Computer Science, Statistics, Operations Research, Econometrics, Economics, or a related quantitative field.
5+ years of professional experience in machine learning and AI (candidates with equivalent project or research experience are encouraged to apply).
Strong hands-on experience in causal modeling and experimental design.
Proven ability to analyze large, complex datasets and generate actionable insights.
Experience with end-to-end ML solution development.
Pragmatic problem-solving skills focused on scalable and effective methods.
Excellent communication skills, with the ability to share ideas effectively with diverse technical and business audiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
Proficiency in Python; familiarity with Spark is a plus but not required - eagerness to learn is valued.
Experience or interest in applying AI techniques, including large language models (LLMs).
Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, or Azure).
Experience with voice technology and speech recognition systems.
Knowledge of AI ethics and responsible AI practices.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
