Legal Director, Regulatory Affairs

Expedia Group is recruiting a lawyer to join its Regulatory legal Team in the Expedia Legal & Government Affairs group. 

You will focus on compliance with laws pertaining to internet companies, short term rental website companies, and laws requiring the sharing of website user information with governments for legal and tax purposes.

This position will handle these laws across all of Expedia Group’s global brands and lines of business. The work includes support of Expedia Group’s Government Affairs group, analysis of new and changing laws and work with the company to implement global compliance projects at large scale. 

In addition, the role will involve handling investigations concerning compliance with laws pertaining to website companies and advising on internet and short term rental laws. You will report to Senior Director, Regulatory Affairs. If you want to work on and learn new and changing laws regarding internet companies, this is the role for you!

What you’ll do:

• Providing legal analysis of new website company, short term rental and tax data sharing laws and regulations

• Working with Expedia Government Affairs and Tax teams on new laws and policy

• Representing Expedia in discussions with legislators and regulators regarding proposed and existing laws

• Responding to information requests from regulators and representing Expedia in investigations

• Working with Expedia business and product teams on implementation of new laws and compliance solutions

• Working in conjunction with Expedia Group legal teams to ensure knowledge of new laws and ongoing compliance requirements

Who you are:

• Ability to work both independently and with multiple legal and business teams

• Strong analytical skills and the ability to communicate directly and clearly

• Common sense, great judgment, intellectual curiosity, and a sense of humor

• Team spirit with demonstrated skills to work effectively with colleagues, business clients, external counsel and regulatory authorities

• Strong project manager skills

• Highly fluent in English. Additional languages such as German, Spanish or Portuguese are a plus

• Results orientation with a focus on customer satisfaction

• Ethical and professional integrity

• Regulatory law experience in different jurisdictions a plus

• Experience handling regulatory compliance projects a plus
