Expedia is seeking a highly organized and experienced paralegal, with a passion for privacy and technology, to support the global privacy legal team, based in Seattle, London, and Singapore. This team advises all brands and business groups across Expedia Group on compliance with privacy laws and regulations around the world and is on the cutting edge of changes in law and technology - advising on AI and machine learning, the changing world of AdTech, the growth of Privacy Enhancing Technology, and much more.

This position is part of the Expedia Legal and Corporate Affairs team, a globally-oriented legal team that is proactive, collaborative and highly respected, where you will work closely with internal clients in a fast-paced and exciting environment. We see this paralegal position as the beating heart of the team that will drive even more streamlined and effective delivery of privacy advice and support to the business. This position is based in Seattle.

Who you are:

  • Concluded or ongoing bachelor’s degree with experience with a top-notch law firm or in an in-house legal environment (technology background preferred) and a current paralegal certificate.

  • Passion for technology and driving efficiency within a team through design thinking

  • Strong organizational skills with superb attention to detail, analytical posture and ability to work in a multitask and fast-paced team environment that values high performance and ownership.

  • Excellent technology skills in Sharepoint, Office Suite including Excel, Confluence, JIRA.

  • Ideally 2 years of documented privacy or technology experience.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills in English. Additional language skills desirable.

  • Proactivity and analytical skills to review and improve internal processes and manage internal projects.

  • Outstanding interpersonal skills with the ability to establish good working relationships.

  • Ability to set priorities and exercise judgment and problem solving.

  • Ability to balance multiple tasks with minimal direction.

What you’ll do:

  • Own the privacy team’s internal online presence and facilitate how the team delivers advice to the business, including by:

    • Designing and developing new ways to deliver privacy guidance and insights

    • Maintaining and improving team Confluence Page, Legal Basecamp Privacy Section, and ELCAnet Privacy site

  • Driving the Privacy team to provide the most efficient and relevant advice to the business, including by:

    • Collaborating with our Privacy Operations and Procurement teams to ensure privacy assessments and contracts are successfully completed

    • Streamlining and driving efficiency in the contract review process by monitoring contracting trends, drafting negotiation playbooks and delivering targeted training

    • Providing frontline contract negotiation support

  • Serve as the liaison between Privacy and the Corporate Administration team overseeing:

    • the governance of internal data transfer agreements and other corporate privacy governance appointments and registrations

    • The completion of our yearly renewals of privacy-related certifications and renewals (EU-US DPF, ICO registration, etc.)

  • Facilitate the updates to all policies owned by the Privacy team

    • Streamline the delivery and update of all Privacy and Cookie Statements globally for travelers, employees, and B2B customers

    • Lead the gathering of all changes needed to all policies with the team and business, including Privacy Statements and Data Retention Policy

The total cash range for this position in Seattle is $73,000.00 to $102,500.00. Employees in this role have the potential to increase their pay up to $117,000.00, which is the top of the range, based on ongoing, demonstrated, and sustained performance in the role.

Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
