User Experience Engineer II:
Our Technology Team partners with teams across Expedia Group to create innovative products, services, and tools to deliver high-quality experiences for travelers, partners, and our employees. A singular technology platform powered by data and machine learning provides secure, differentiated, and personalized experiences that drive loyalty and traveler satisfaction.
This User Experience Engineer II role sits within Expedia Group’s Book-to-Trip organization, in the Post-Booking Servicing area, which owns the experiences travelers use after they book, including managing cancellations, changes, refunds, and other servicing actions across brands. The team’s mission is to make it simple and stress-free for travelers to manage their trips on their own, reducing the need to contact support while improving satisfaction and loyalty.
This is a small, Austin-based engineering team that builds modern web and native mobile experiences, with web as the immediate priority. The team is cross-functional (back-end, full-stack, and front-end engineers) and this role is dedicated to front-end/UI engineering: building high-quality, performant interfaces using React and EG’s design system components (EGDS) in close partnership with UX and Product. A major current focus is evolving our post-booking flows into AI-powered servicing experiences that blend help center, virtual agent, and in-product tools into a coherent trip companion for travelers. As part of the broader Trips and Post-Booking ecosystem, this team’s work directly contributes to strategic goals like increasing traveler self-service, strengthening reliability and speed of our trip surfaces, and building a more contextual, personalized hub for managing booked trips.
In this role, you will:
Build, enhance, and maintain user-facing web experiences that are performant, accessible, and consistent with Expedia Group UX patterns and design systems across multiple products and domains.
Translate product and UX requirements into robust front-end implementations using modern web technologies, including responsive layouts, modular components, and reusable interaction patterns.
Collaborate with product managers, designers, and engineers to refine requirements, validate technical feasibility, and deliver high-quality, customer-centric solutions through iterative development.
Implement and improve UI state management, data presentation, and client-side integrations with backend APIs, ensuring reliability, scalability, and clear contracts between services.
Apply and advocate for best practices in usability, accessibility, testing, and code quality, contributing to shared standards, documentation, and cross-team reusability.
Safely integrate and operate AI/ML‑enabled solutions that improve outcomes, including familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Human-Computer Interaction, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
2+ years Professional experience implementing production web user interfaces, including building, testing, and shipping front-end features that integrate with backend APIs or services.
Hands-on experience with core web technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) and at least one modern UI framework or library, with ownership of features or components within a product or service.
Experience collaborating in a cross-functional environment with design and product partners, using data and customer insights to inform implementation decisions.
Familiarity with AI-driven systems, tools, or workflows and applying AI/ML concepts to real world products, with an understanding of how to safely integrate AI/ML‑enabled solutions in user experiences.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience building and evolving shared UI components, design system integrations, or pattern libraries used across multiple products, teams, or domains at scale.
Proven ability to design and implement front-end architecture concerns such as state management, performance optimization, accessibility, and test automation for complex user journeys.
Experience defining and consuming RESTful or GraphQL APIs, contributing to API design discussions, and influencing data modeling to support intuitive and efficient UX flows.
Demonstrated experience safely integrating AI/ML‑enabled capabilities into user interfaces (for example, recommendations, personalization, or assistive workflows) and iterating based on data and user feedback.
Experience instrumenting UX for telemetry and experimentation, using metrics and user research to guide continuous improvement and inform future UX and technical decisions.
Starting pay for this role will vary based on multiple factors, including location, available budget, and an individual’s knowledge, skills, and experience. Pay ranges may be modified in the future.
