Career Check-in with Brad Breton: Talent Sourcer

Brad Breton, Talent Sourcer, has had a busy start to his first two years at Expedia Group. Since joining EG, after spending 9 years in the U.S. Navy, Brad has relocated from our Seattle office to our Munich office. Meanwhile, he has also built a true passion for sourcing talent for our career opportunities, and was part of setting up EG with the Hiring our Heroes program for transitioning service members, veterans, and their spouses.

Learn more about Brad’s experience on the Global Talent Acquisition team, and his experience of being a member of our Veteran’s at Expedia Group Inclusion Business Group, below.

Brad Breton, Talent Sourcer, Munich, Germany

I work within the Global Talent Acquisition team, and our main priorities are talent identification, engaging passive candidates, performing market research, and employer branding. I work in a truly global team, which I think is unique and allows for a lot of diversity of thought.

In my role, I work cross functionally with recruiters, hiring managers and HR teams to understand job requirements and candidate profiles. I then get to utilize different tools to identify and reach out to those individuals that are a skills fit for the roles I’m working on. Applying for jobs and interviewing is stressful, I think a big impact we can make is on how we interact with candidates. We strive to make it the most positive and engaging experience possible, for everyone.

Prior to Expedia Group, I spent over 9 years in the US Navy as an Aircraft Mechanic. As I was thinking about the next chapter of my life, I wanted to continue working for a diverse organization that had values I could align with, in a role that challenges me and allows me to engage with people on a very regular basis.

As I left the military, I started my new career as a Talent Sourcer in our Seattle, WA, USA, office. Eight months into my new career, my wife, Lauren, was given an amazing opportunity with her company to transfer to Munich, Germany. When in the military, we moved around quite a bit, but often didn’t get a say in where we would be moving to. Lauren happily came along for the journey whenever we moved, putting her career on hold. I was so happy to have the opportunity to pay that back and support her in her career, no matter what. So, I told my manager that I would be moving to Munich, and would love to stay employed at EG as we have an office in Munich. I was honestly shocked when my request to move was approved. For me, it really showcased how my leadership trusts me and the work that I do, especially after such a short time with the organization, I felt very supported. Moving to Germany has opened up so many opportunities for me to grow, personally and professionally, and I couldn’t be more thankful.

My experience has been great with the Veterans at Expedia Group (VETs) Inclusion Business Group (IBG). I joined VETs because joining EG was my first time in a corporate setting. The amount of imposter syndrome I felt was overwhelming, and it was great to have a community of other vets and allies to go to. It helped having a community to network with, and to chat to others who were in the same situation as me, at one time or another. It’s wonderful to see the engagement within the community, and to see various chapters forming globally for everyone to be able to connect and collaborate together locally, as well.

I was proudly a part of the grassroots effort to get EG involved in the Hiring our Heroes program for transitioning service members, veterans, and their spouses. This was truly special to me, as it was a program that I was personally involved in, while I was in the process of transitioning out of the military and looking toward a totally different career path. I also was invited to be a speaker at an event, hosted by Forces Employment Charity, where I spoke to service leavers in the UK about pathways into the tech industry. It was great to speak about my experiences, and to provide more insight into what the recruiting process looks like, and to what resources are out there to help them prepare.

Whether we are talking about work or traveling, inclusion is at the heart of Expedia Group. It’s such an amazing place to work. It is a culture that allows you to be your genuine self every day, and with that, has allowed me to meet and work with some truly amazing people.
