Tell us about your team and your role.

I’m part of the Pricing team, and we’re spread across the globe. Our focus is providing lodging-related pricing for all Expedia Group brands and partners, ensuring travellers see accurate prices throughout their shopping experience. I guess I could say that without us, we wouldn’t be able to sell any hotels (though I’m sure many, many, other teams would say the same).

My day-to-day involves writing and reviewing code, discussing technical approaches with my team, and contributing to design decisions that shape how we solve problems. What I love most is how quickly I’ve been trusted to take on responsibility. I’ve always been encouraged to bring my ideas to the table, whether it’s brainstorming solutions or implementing changes that improve the platform’s performance and reliability. We’re also encouraged to shape our careers and develop skills in areas that interest us. In my team’s latest project, there was a significant part involving data processing, which was something I hadn’t worked on before but was eager to gain hands-on experience with and develop in that area.

What inspired you to get into tech?

I was inspired to get into tech by the endless potential to create! The only limit is your imagination. At EG, we get to use creativity to power travel for everyone, everywhere, and there’s something really cool about that. We’re not just building technology; we’re helping create lifelong memories for travellers around the world!

What is your proudest achievement at EG so far

My proudest achievement at EG so far was releasing my first project into production. The project focused on simplifying the architecture within our pricing systems, aiming to have a single platform to calculate prices for both hotels and vacation rentals. This unification not only streamlined operations for us developers but will result in significant cost savings. Looking back, I learned so much throughout the process, and seeing the business value of the hard work we put in has been incredibly rewarding.

What advice would you give to people who may be following a similar career path to you?

Don’t hesitate to get a mentor. I wouldn’t be where I am without their guidance – having one actually helped me land this role! A mentor who is in a position you aspire to be in not only keeps you focused on your goals but also provides valuable perspectives you may not have considered. Their insights can really help you navigate your career path and make more informed decisions.

What is it like working in the EG London office?

The culture of the London office is vibrant and inclusive. I love bumping into friends from my cohort of the EG Graduate Program, enjoying coffee breaks with team members, and grabbing lunch at local food markets. These moments really make life in the London office special! Outside of the office, I enjoy running with a run club on weekends. Since I only moved to London when I started the Graduate Program, it’s been a great way to explore the city, running through parks, landmarks, and even by football stadiums.

Why would you recommend a career at EG?

EG is truly invested in your growth. I joined the Grad Program after completing the Intern Program here. However, my journey started even earlier, with the EG Career Discovery Program. The program was offered to students and included a mentorship scheme, career panels, and hands-on coding sessions that helped prepare me for interviews.
